November 2022
Shalom, World Travel Market offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year and look forward to the next. The past few months have been particularly significant, as travel is possible again and people are eager to see the world. Now that all travel restrictions have been lifted, it’s easier than ever to visit our beautiful country. It gives me great pleasure to say the Israel travel industry is on its way to recovery. Our visitor statistics show an upward trend in our visitor numbers, with some interesting changes in the UK’s position on our entry table: Pre- pandemic the UK was always the 5th largest source market to Israel and currently it’s number 3. Now that the weekly number of flights is almost back to full capacity, I’m confident we’ll return to our record 2019 levels soon. With your help, we hope to be breaking records again in the near future. As for the future, we look forward to promoting Israel in 2023. Early in the year we’ll launch our new advertising campaign, which will take a comprehensive approach to Israel by showcasing the many areas and themes people can enjoy when they visit. In addition to our main campaign, Israel strives to focus on specific regions. For example, the Negev Desert - which offers not only amazing winter sun, but is also perfect for those looking for activity & adventure holidays. In closing, I wish to pass on my thanks and appreciation to the UK travel industry. This is my last WTM for IGTO UK, as my position as Director of UK & Ireland will draw to a close in the summer of 2023. Promoting Israel in the UK has been an absolute pleasure, as the travel industry here is full of the most amazing individuals. Thank you for making my job enjoyable as well as interesting. I wish all of you a successful World Travel Market. We look forward to seeing you in Israel – Land of Creation.

T he Irish Low Coast company, Ryanair, announced the operation of flights from Ramon Airport near Eilat. This is dramatic news mainly for the residents of the southern city of Eilat, who will now be able to fly to Europe at low-cost prices. Ryanair will operate direct flights from Ramon Airport to several destinations in
failed and that apart from a short series of flights that the Arkia company took out of Ramon and even that was discontinued, neither El Al nor Israir are in a hurry to transfer part of their aviation activity from Tel Aviv to Ramon. At a press conference, Ryanair CEO - Eddie Wilson, said that “Ryanair will
increase all of its operations in Israel. We have increased our operations in Israel by 25% compared to pre- Corona. We fly to 25 routes in 13 countries, including 5 new destinations including the city of Bari in Italy. 200 flights a week. I believe that we will be able to achieve in Israel what we have achieved in other countries” (note that Ryanair has already flown from Tbilisi to Bari in the past and is now renewing the route). The Irish airline has flown from the beginning of the year to September (inclusive) - 929,999 passengers from and to Ben Gurion and is ranked second in Ben Gurion in terms of market share, after El Al, which has flown

Minister of Tourism Yoel Razvozov (Yesh Atid) on the expansion of Ryanair’s operations in Israel: “Get ready for a warm winter in Eilat! I welcome Ryanair’s decision to open direct flights from 4 destinations in Europe to Eilat. This is good news that will lower airfares, and bring many tourists who will bring a lot of money into the city. This is how tourism is promoted, this is how the economy is strengthened, and this is how Israel is positioned as a leading international destination”.

FINNAIR RESUMES AIRBUS A321 FLIGHTS TO EILAT
Finnair’s last flight to Eilat before the suspension was operated on March 10th, 2020
Nigerian carrier would be the first to offer direct flights, dramatically cutting travel time to the Middle Eastern country. While not confirmed, services could start as soon as the end of November. According to The Eagle Online, Air Peace is considering a new route from Lagos Airport to Tel Aviv-Yafo. The route will cater to the thousands of pilgrims who visit Israel every year for its historical religious sites. Currently, travelers must take lengthy one-stop connections through the Middle East, which can take at least 10 hours. While there is demand for direct flights to Israel, several factors go into deciding whether such a route is feasible. Air Peace’s fleet of Boeing 737s, 777s, and the new E195-E2 are all capable of making the six-hour journey from Africa to the Middle East, offering a decent amount of flexibility. One Air Peace Media Representative also hinted that flights could start as soon as the end of November, meaning the carrier is working hard to make this route a reality. However, this is yet to be confirmed, and tickets have not gone on sale just yet, meaning such a short lead time is questionable. Flights for religious pilgrims tend to perform exceptionally well due to relatively inelastic demand, especially around important seasons. Therefore, Air Peace’s new route to Tel Aviv could see a comfortable passenger load, especially during certain times of the year.
I nternational flights to Eilat only restarted flights to the Israeli resort city after a two-year absence. The last flight before the suspension was operated on March 10th, 2020, and the airline’s return with weekly flights from Helsinki makes it one of the first European carriers to return to Eilat. Considering Eilat basks in an average of about 360 days of sun annually, the Israeli holiday destination is ideal for Finnair’s winter sun schedule. Passengers flying with the flag carrier can enjoy a warmer, more coastal resumed earlier this year, and now, Finnish flag carrier Finnair has finally winter as flights to Eilat will be made available until the end of March. Ole Orvér, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized: “We are excited to return to Eilat and strengthen our position as the leading airline between Finland and Israel. We
know our customers will be excited by the return of this route, which is important to us as we rebuild our network and offer a great choice of destinations for winter sunseekers.” Flights will depart Helsinki Airport every Tuesday at 08:10 AM, arriving at Ramon Airport at 13:10. The return flight will then take-off from Ramon Airport at 14:05 before returning to Finnair’s central hub at 19:05. With the Airbus A321 configured for 209 passengers, the flag carrier will offer approximately 418 weekly seats on the short-haul route. Nigeria’s Air Peace Primed For Direct Israel Flights Flights could start at soon as next month Air Peace CEO Allen Onyema has revealed that the airline could be starting flights to Israel soon. The

ISRAEL TO BUILD 8,000 NEW HOTEL ROOMS BY 2023 AS TOURISM RAMPS UP Hotel occupancy rates nearing pre-pandemic levels, though many bookings this year still Israeli ‘staycationers’ T he Israeli Tourism Ministry has made commitments to build some 4,500 new hotel rooms this year, with another 4,000 or so next year, as travelers return to the country and the tourism industry picks up again following the aftermath of the
pandemic. By contrast, just around 5,000 rooms in total came to market in the five years preceding the outbreak of COVID-19. The ministry said this week that it is working to speed up the building of new rooms (through extensions to existing hotels and the creation of new hotels) to enhance competition in the market, and ultimately to make holidaying in Israel more affordable. “Adding rooms will allow us to host more tourists, who will bring a lot of money into the economy. Successful marketing of land [for hotels] is another step on our way to meet the
goal I set for tourism in Israel: hosting 10 million tourists a year by 2030. We will continue to act to encourage and accelerate the establishment of tourist accommodation rooms in Israel, and to remove more and more barriers in the industry,” said Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov. A number of tenders for hotel development are currently open in Ashkelon, Kiryat Shmona, Kiryat Motzkin, and Katzrin. They are part of 2022 plans to add 770 rooms across the north of the country, 2,100 rooms in the South, and 1,650 rooms around the Dead Sea.

THE OLD CITY OF AKKO INVITES YOU TO DISCOVER ITS SECRETS ABOVEGROUND AND BELOW
Old Akko (Acre) is a port city situated on a peninsula on the Mediterranean coast in northern Israel. It is known for its well-preserved old city walls. A visit to this ancient city is an important part of the Holy Land experience and one of Israel’s main tourist destinations. Currently home to thousands of residents, Akko is a study of contrasts – the convergence of East and West, modernity and antiquity, beauty and ruins. Known for centuries as the gateway to the Holy Land due to its location as a port of entry for international dignitaries and trade, Akko provides a unique glimpse into the Crusader and Ottoman periods in the region. The subterranean crusader city was revealed and restored under the Ottoman city above. This extraordinary phenomenon was awarded World Heritage Site by UNESCO. POINTS OF INTEREST: The Knights’ Kingdom A 5,000-year old story unfolds inside the halls of the citadel - the museum’s displays and films projected on the walls tell the story of the crusades. During this tour, each visitor receives a headset, and can choose one of 10 different languages. The Hospitaller Fortress The Hospitaller Order, which thrived in Jerusalem during the First Crusader Kingdom (1099-1187) transferred its headquarters to Akko during the Second Crusader Kingdom (1191-1291). The
Hospitallers expanded their headquarters and rebuilt the site, which consisted of two to three floors around a central court as
well as underground sections. The Templars Tunnel
The Templars were a military-monastic order who – in the name of the pope – aided pilgrims and the ailing coming from Europe to visit the holy sites of the Land of Israel. MORE POINTS OF INTEREST: The colorful Market Street and Bazaars are the main thoroughfare of the Old City, running from north to south. One cannot visit the city without tasting the delicious dishes at the wonderful Chef Restaurants and paying a visit at the unique Boutique Hotels. A regular ferry from Akko to Haifa and from Haifa to Akko is a special experience that offers tourists the chance to enjoy the spectacular views of the cities by sea. There are Churches, Mosques and Synagogue in Old Akko. Some of them are opened to visits. The “Or Torah” Synagogue in the new city is a site worth seeing. So is the “Al Basha” Turkish Bath and the Seraya, a structure built during Turkish rule in Akko, in the late 18th century, where the offices of the civilian regime officials were located. It is also recommended to visit the galleries in the Old City and the “Okashi” Art Museum as well as the “Treasures in the Walls” Museum.
Old Akko, a city of art and fine cuisine In addition to the unique historical sites of Old Akko, it is known as a culinary powerhouse, combining authentic food stalls like Hummus and Falafel alongside fine Chef Restaurants. Throughout the year the city hosts many festivals, exhibitions and cultural music performances. Old Akko is also known for its amazing unique Boutique Hotels & Suites. The ancient buildings are mostly from the Ottoman period. The site ‘Booking.com’ rated Old Akko second place in the raking of the most popular cities for 2022.
OLD AKKO (ACRE) Akko is a city that has been shaped by the Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Mamelukes, Ottomans and British, and fittingly is today home to brilliantly coexistent mixed population of Muslims, Jews, Christians, Druze, Baha’i and Armenians. ISRAEL TOURISM
ISRAEL’S MINISTRY OF TOURISM MINISTER IS JAMES BONDING FOR ISRAEL
A promotional film, with the Minister resembling agent 007 - some of the most beautiful tourist sites in Israel are presented
T he summer is over, and in the of the year. During this time, all over the world, the various countries begin to market themselves and attract as many tourists as possible from around the world. The Minister of Tourism, Yoel Razvozov, was also early to do this, starting Israel’s marketing efforts – this time led by none other than “James Bond”. The Minister of Tourism, Yoel Razvozov decided to use his outward resemblance to the Hollywood actor Daniel Craig – aka the actor who plays “James Bond”, and produced himself – without using any state resources, an image film for Israel. world of tourism – we are already preparing for the “weak” period In the promotional film, some of the most beautiful tourist sites in Israel
are presented, with the minister of tourism visiting all of them. It can be seen that this is not an official visit by a minister as we are used to, but a visit that would not embarrass scenes from action movies: surfing in the Kinneret and on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, diving in Eilat, but also walking (in the suit and bow tie familiar from the movies) on the walls of the old city of Jaffa, in the “I thought about how I could personally help in the marketing of Israel, and in spreading the good and beautiful that we have here in Israel to the world“
Negev deserts, In lively Tel Aviv (how is it possible without a martini glass in hand) and of course in Jerusalem and Nazareth, which are so important for religious tourism. Minister of Tourism, Yoel Razvozov: “I thought about how I could personally help in the marketing of Israel, and in spreading the good and beautiful that we have here in Israel to the world. Marketing Israel to the world is a difficult and important job that the Ministry of Tourism does and invests hundreds of millions of shekels, but because I see my position as a minister in the Israeli government as a national mission, I got involved and self- financed the video that will advertise our wonderful country to the world through social networks and the tools at my disposal”.
