A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8
What an exceptionally warm week it has been!
As mentioned last week I was going to update you about the sports day results. I can now officially let you know that the overall winners across the school were Seacole - Well Done to 8SHU and 8STR for your contribution to this! The winning Year 8 form was EDA - I know your form teacher Mrs Davies was incredibly proud of your team work and achievement! Congratulations, to everyone that participated in the event. It really was a fabulous day and the enthusiasm of the participants and their supporters truly made it a day to remember. Alongside traditional athletic events, fun activities like the skipping race and egg and spoon race ensured everyone could get involved regardless of their athletic abilities. It was an amazing show of school spirit. Year 8 should be very proud of your efforts.
On Wednesday, we had a successful Drop Down Day as Year 8 participated in the Life Skills programme. Students worked in groups and enjoyed activities ranging from First Aid, Self Defence, Finance and Road Safety. It was great to see everyone engaging positively, making the most of the opportunity and having fun with their peers whilst learning new skills along the way.
Leading our epraise individual leader board this week for Year 8 are Jessica F (8FFR), Ashlynn T (8FFR) and Haley T (8FFR) - Well done for leading the way!
As we look towards the two final weeks of the year I remind all of Year 8 to continue to maintain the high expectations that have been set throughout the year. I look forward to the final few weeks of this busy term!
MRS LYDDON, HEAD OF YEAR 8
‘Arsenic For Tea’ by Robin Stevens A murder-mystery, with two curious girls as the main protagonists – Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong. As chaos unfolds around them, they try to solve the clues like full-on detectives, but unpaid, of course. Daisy’s mother throws a tea party, with the whole family invited but when one of them mysteriously falls ill with food poisoning and then passes away Wells and Wong are suspicious. Who could have done it, and how? The book is a thrilling read, as you unpick the clues with our protagonists. To suspect a character and find out the truth is a whole adventure without having to leave home. I picked this book from the series specifically because of how suspenseful it was. Almost every character seemed like the culprit, every single one of them acted edgy, so it was even harder to work out. This is the second book in the series, so I recommend reading the first book first, but there are other books in the series as well, so if you enjoyed this one, there are many more to enjoy! BOOK OF THE MONTH
