20:11), she stooped down and looked with in the tomb. There she saw two beautiful angels; but even angels could not dry Mary’s tears that day. “Woman, why weepest thou?” they asked her, and she replied: “Because they have taken away ------ Lord, and I know not where they have him” (John 20:13).' Then, turning, she saw Someone stand ing near by, and He said to her: “Woman, w h y ......................thou ? whom ..J.................. thou?” (John 20:15). And Mary, think ing He was but the gardener, answered: “ Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will ............... him away” (John 20:15). And then a wonderful thing happened. Mary, standing there in the garden, heard a voice.. Yes, there were other sounds, no doubt. There may have been the song of a bird, and we know there had been the angels’ voices, but no other voice to Mary ever sounded so sweet as this one. It was the voice o f Jesus, and He spoke her name. With wonderful love and tenderness, He said: “Mary.” And she turned about, and, no doubt falling at His feet with" outstretched arms, said to H im : “Rabboni,” which means, “Master.” “ Touch me not,” He said, “ for I am not yet ascended to my Father: bu t...... to my and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God” . (John 20:17). Then Mary Magdalene went to the dis ciples and told them that she had .......¿i.;.v. the Lord, and that He h a d .......................... to her (John 20:18). When one has read what the Bible says about the resurrection o f the Lord Jesus Christ, the story is still to go on, for every boy and girl and every man and woman who believes the glad message that Jesus died and rose again, should be a messenger as the disciples were. Will you not “go” and “tell” some one else the good news, that others, too, may share the joy of the blessed resurrection day? “As a Lily . . . ” The pure white lily with its golden stamens and cool green leaves seems to blossom at just the right season- o f the year, Easter time, for what other flower could so beautifully tell the resurrection story? . God teaches us in His Word that one' who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour is “as a lily among thorns” (Song of Solomon 2:2 ). What a contrast there is between a lily and a thorn! . There should be a great difference, then, between the boy or girl who belongs to the Lord Jesus and the one who does not. Those who believe in Jesus Christ are in this world as lilies among thorns, for the thorns represent the people who do not believe. Let us look at the beautiful white lily. How lovely it is 1 And God says that we who believe are “as a lily.” The pure white petals might picture the Lord Jesus’ own righteousness which we received when we believed. You know, we were with out any good thing in our lives; we had no righteousness o f our own, but He gave His own to us as a free gift (Rom. 3:22). In Isaiah 61:10 we read: “I will greatly rejoice in the L ord ,. . . for he hath clothed me with the garments o f salvation, he hath covered me with the robe o f right eousness.” The pure whiteness, too, might picture the cleansing that took place’ in our hearts when we received the Lord Jesus as Sav
iour. In Isaiah 1 :18 we find a wonderful verse which I’m sure you would like to memorize. Read it aloud! “ Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Isn’t it wonderful to know that our sins are all washed away? A lily is delicately fragrant, too. In passing through a garden, one can often by the lovely fragrance know that a lily is growing there, even though it cannot be seen. The lily makes itself known by its sweet perfume. And we, by all that we do and say, should let others know that we belong to the Lord Jesus. We are told in 2 Corinthians 2:15 that “we are unto God a sweet savor,’Vor fragrance. No matter what the variety of the lily, there is always a bit of golden yellow about it somewhere.", Gold is such an at tractive color, especially with white I Gold seems to speak to us o f glory and of the beautiful city that awaits us, with ’the streets of pure gold. Some day we are to share the glory of the Lord Jesus and be like Him. Then there are the fresh green leaves and stalks upholding the lily and nour ishing it. Have these any message for us ? They seem to say, “We are growing, grow ing.” And isn’t that what every boy and girl desires to do—to grow? “ Grow in grace, and in the knowledge o f our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,” we are told in 2 Peter 3:18. And this we will be sure to do if we take time to read at least a chapter from our Bibles each day, for the Word o f God is food and nourishment to the Christian. Yes, He says we are “as a lily,” and as we enjoy the beautiful lilies of this Easter season, shall we not desire more than ever before to be “as a lily” for Him? —M. S. H.
