By Dorothy C. Haskln C hristmas is so commercial.” How often we hear that complaint, but it need not be. If Christians will band together they can recap ture Christmas for the Lord Jesus. For one thing, a group of young people could visit the managers of the department stores with the sug gestion that this year the Christmas decorations should feature a Christian motif. This should be done in Octo ber because stores plan their Christ mas decorations at least that early. The most tactful member of the group should be spokesman. He should emphasize the beauty of the true Christmas story and remind the store manager of lovely effects which can be achieved with stars, shepherds on the hillside or manger scenes. To back the visit of the young peo ple, the older members of the church could put on a letter-writing cam paign, suggesting the decorations be Christian. This campaign can be extended be yond the stores to the programs at school. Again, a group should go to the principal and suggest that the Christian theme be stressed instead of Santa Claus and when the subject of the Christmas party comes up at work, the Christian can use his in fluence to make the party fitting. Words by Annie Hawks T he author was thirty-seven years of age when she wrote this hymn-poem. “ I remember well the morning . . . when in the midst of the daily cares of my home I was so filled with the sense of the nearness of the Master that, won dering how one could live without Him. either in joy or pain, these words ‘I need Thee every hour’ were ushered into my mind. It was wafted out to the world on the wings of love and joy, rather than under the stress of great personal sorrow. It was not until long years after, when the shadow fell over my way that I understood something of the comforting in the words I had been permitted to Words by Mrs. C. D. Martin T his song was written in 1904, by husband and wife. Many conflicting stories concerning its writing have been published. In a letter (dated Sept. 1, 1941), Mrs. Martin gives this first-hand story: “ I was confined to a sickbed in a Bible school in Lestershire, New York. My husband was spending several weeks at the school, mak ing a songbook. ‘God Will Take Care of You’ was written on Sun day afternoon while my husband went to a preaching appointment. When he. returned I gave the words to him; he immediately sat down to his little Bilhorn organ and wrote the music. That eve ning he and two of the teachers

The Bible never told any man to run from the devil. It says to make the devil run from you. Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Jesus whipped the devil and He is the only person who ever did it. If we submit ourselves to Christ, the devil will flee because Christ has whipped him. While the Bible does not tell us to run from the devil, it does tell us to run from the appetites of the flesh. We are told to flee from fornication. In other words, it is harder to win over self than it is to win over the devil. Paul said, “Avoid the appearance of evil.” Don’t
