Fire Service Leaders... Who happen to be Women

Professional Firefighters to become chief officers. In 2024, the Governor appointed Chief Diaz to the California State Board of Fire Services, an advisory board to the State Fire Marshal. Chief Diaz is a highly respected professional who devotes a significant amount of time recruiting and mentoring people for entry and promotion within the fire service. She has also worked closely through labor/management collaboration to support the mental health and well-being of firefighters. This has included implementing firefighter cancer and cardiac preventative health screenings in the department, as well as other health and safety programs. Zoraida has also focused her department on organizational preparedness for major events such as civil unrest, power shutoffs, unprecedented weather events, and others. Fire Chief Zoraida Diaz didn't grow up wanting to be a firefighter, but she migrated to jobs that helped people through the ups and downs of their lives - whether through counseling and social services, or through delivering fire and EMS services all to help people through very difficult times. Her journey through life has positioned her directly into the "people business", and it seems she has found a perfect fit for such an intelligent, driven, caring, and competent person like Fire Chief Zoraida Diaz. We are fortunate and thankful that she has chosen a career in fire and emergency services!
