Storm King Mountain, and work to provide first responders (including their incident commanders) the information, training, and tools needed to deal with the significantly stressful situations and decision-making requirements they encounter. The Stress First Aid Program for Wildland Firefighting she created helps the firefighters manage the psychological impacts of critical incidents. Kimberly earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from George Fox University and a Master of Science in Risk Management from Notre Dame of Maryland University. She has also received extensive training from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF), Duke University of Integrative Medicine, and the Mind Fitness Training Institute. In addition, she has responded to numerous critical incidents to provide on-site peer support. Her work has been formally recognized many times during her career, and in 2018, she was honored with the prestigious "Paul Gleason Lead by Example Award" for her motivation, vision, and bravery in bringing attention to the insufficiencies in how we care for each other following critical, stressful, incidents. Having first met Kimberly Lightley during my time with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, it was inspiring to watch her interact with the NFFF board, staff and volunteers, as well as the surviving families of our nation's fallen firefighters. Her kind and humble approach to everyone she encountered endeared her to all. It is wonderful to hear Kimberly speak about her career experiences and the insights she so openly shares with her audiences.
