the breadth and quality of her work, and her unique abilities, she is widely recognized as an exceptional resource, as well as a successful leader, manager, instructor, and overall fire & life safety professional. I have long admired and supported the work of fire and life safety educators, not just within the two metro fire departments where I have served as a firefighter and fire chief, but in national organizations and programs as well. They are sometimes unsung heroes, but the injuries and deaths they have prevented through their efforts are countless. Karla Klas is a long-time champion of this critical work, not only as a leader, but as a practitioner as well. Through her new role at NFPA, she is sure to accomplish even more remarkable outcomes and drive the future success of the fire and emergency services community in preventing harm to people, pets, property, and the environment due to the unforgiving ravages of fire.
