Mary Beth Michos

Former Fire Chief, and all-world person, Mary Beth Michos began her career as a Registered Nurse working in a hospital and later became a member of the nation’s first mobile intensive care unit serving in Montgomery County, Maryland. Mary Beth went on to become a sworn

member of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Department, where she was their first woman uniformed officer and EMS Officer. She developed the county’s initial paramedic training and service delivery program. After Mary Beth transitioned to a sworn firefighter position, she promoted through the ranks, eventually achieving the position of Assistant Fire Chief. Following 20 years in Montgomery County, Chief Michos served for 13 years (1994-2007) as the Fire Chief in the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia. After her retirement as an active fire chief, she went to work with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) where she serves as a senior advisor and Director of the highly acclaimed Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI). Chief Michos has a significant educational background earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Columbia Union College, a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Innovation from Marymount University, and has been enrolled in a Doctoral Program in Education Leadership Development at Grand Canyon University. She has been recognized nationally for her expertise in EMS management and has worked closely with the American Heart Association (AHA) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), including serving as a former Chair of their Board.
