Monthly transit pass sees slight increase

The two-dollar increase on the m onthl y passes is what riders have to pa y instead of an $8 inc- rease if council had allowed the entire OCTrans- po charge to appl y . Instead the township is absorbing three-quarters of the charge to keep transit rates fro m going up too m uch. Russell Township’s public transit service is linked to the Cit y of Ottawa’s OCTranspo as part of the co mm uter connection between the township and the other m unicipalit y . OCTranspo has created a new regional transit pass s y ste m for its own bus service and all regional partners. This m eans that the old colour-coded Russell Transit passes will beco m e obsolete and invalid at the end of June. For the township the changeover m eans a budget saving of $230 a m onth or $2760 each y ear. Council has agreed to have ad m inistration look at appl y ing an y cost savings in the m uni- cipal transit s y ste m ’s operation to reducing an y increases to m onthl y pass fees.
