A n explorer tells o f his perilous encounter with the savage Auca Indians, who murdered the five American missionaries whose martyrdom is described in Through Gates of Splendor THE NAKED AUCAS An Account of the Indians of Ecuador by ROLF BLOMBERG Deep in the swamps and jungles of Ecuador lives a savage tribe of Indians — the Aucas. They appear to kill for the pleasure of killing and become gloomy and depressed if many days pass without bloodshed. In 1949, the explorer Rolf Blomberg per suaded two companions to join him on an expedition up the Napo River — an expedition that ended in near-disaster. Fortunately, the author escaped to tell his story and those of the four hardy individuals who had previously survived exposure to the Aucas. Readers of "King’s Business” will recall that an article in the December 1956 issue described some of Mr. Blomberg’s exper iences with these "ignoble” sav ages. 75 photographs; 2 maps At all bookstores $5.00 Essential Books, Inc. “ Friend, is that the way you plant seed?” “ Young man,” he replies, “ I want you to know I’m a Chris tian farmer. I’ve dedicated this seed to the Lord and I’ve prayed over this farm. I’m trusting God for a harvest.” What does he get? You know what and you know why. God has ordained laws whereby seed grows and when you cooper ate with those laws, you get a har vest. The more we learn about those laws, the more plentiful will be our harvest. Now let’s watch another farmer. He knows all the latest agricultural techniques. A ll you have to do is ask that man, “ Friend, did you plant it according to the latest tech niques that came out of Texas A and M ? ” “ Yes sir,” he replies, “ I read the latest. This is it.” And so he plants his seed but he doesn’t get a thing. Do you know why? You can plant cotton or com or wheat or anything else according to the latest techniques, but if God Almighty doesn’t send rain or sun shine, or sends too much of either, you don’t get a crop. You as Christian education work ers need to know the techniques but there is something far more than the mechanics of teaching. There are the dynamics. After I’ve pre pared and I know everything it is possible to know, then I’m shut up to the ministry of thé Holy Spirit. If He doesn’t work, nothing hap pens. If He doesn’t teach, no one learns spiritual truth. I don’t want to be a dull tool, an unsharpened instrument in God’s hand. I don’t want to come with the attitude that anything is good enough for God. I think that He deserves only the best. That’s what I want to give Him! Do you? If you do, you’ll want to know who you are teaching, what you are teach ing and how. END.
