« Joël Gauthier était un jeune homme engagé dans sa communauté. Sa famille et ses proches appuient chaudement cette décision », a affirmé le maire de Clarence- Rockland, Marcel Guibord. Le commentaires des proches de Joël Gauthier était unanime : ce jeune homme était très intelligent et possédait un grand sens de l’humour. Joël était étudiant en ingénierie électrique. Il est également fondateur du Groupe de soutien de la maladie de Crohn. de l’Université Carleton
Dans ses temps libres, Joël assouvissait sa passion pour le vélo de montagne de même
que le ski alpin et le paintball soit plusieurs activités de sensations fortes.

ROCKLAND | Le planchodrome qui doit être officiellement inauguré aujourd’hui (11 juin), dans le parc Simon, à Rockland, portera le nom de Parc Planchodrome Joël Gauthier. Il s’agit d’un hommage pour cet adolescent de Rockland, décédé tragiquement à l’âge de 18 ans le 26 mai dernier, après avoir été frappé par la foudre.
