have here a delightful lesson. It is all so natural and yet all so supernatural. Abraham is the priest of God. He wants God's will in the choice of a wife for his son. Here is wisdom. He takes the practical steps. The woman must come from his own people. It is fatal for a believer to marry an unbeliever. He sends a servant (a praying man) who, being in God’s way was led by Him. (v. 27). If you expect guidance you must be in God’s way which is God’s will. You will know His will through His Word. Seeking prayerfully to know His will, and seeking persistently to do His will, do your best for God today and in the place He has put you. Don’t try to cross any streams until you còme to them. If you are right with God you have a right to expect God’s guidance. Why not? Does He not love you? Is not your life precious to Him? Will He not j » glorified in your being guided aright? “ The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” The Lord guided him with His eye. He went to the right place, at the right time, and asked in simple faith for the answer to his prayer. It was not presumption to ask God to send the right woman. God’s plan was the servant’s plan. God is able. He is not hindered. If you are in God’s way, doing God’s will, seeking God’s glory, will not commonplace things become holy in the light of God’s benediction? God knows we are human and knows our limitations. Have you not won dered a hundred times how strangely He directed your path through some homely incident, and do not all of the great things of God hinge upon com monplace incidents? , God wants to teach us, beside the well of Rebekah the lesson of. His con descending faithfulness, as He teaches us at the well of Jacob when Jesus, guided by His Father, found the woman who needed His message of grâce. Yes, God will guide if you are in His way
iand will, and will permit you to testify to His answer to your prayer, and will encourage your faith in His daily lead ing, if you will permit Him. PRACTICAL POINTS. (1) The true servant seeks in every step, by prayer, to know the will of God. (2) In choosing a companion for life, trust all to the Holy Spirit, God’s heavenly servant. - <3) God’s first act in the new creation was the founding of the family, and the family is the foundation of the State. (4) If God’s covenant is to be kept, Isaac must have a bride. (5) Rebekah received her call while performing her daily duties. (6) God’s gracious - gifts are but tokens of the truth of His mes- age to men. (7) While we meditate and pray it pleases God to give us some glad surprises. (8) Rebekah believed the man’s mes- age, said “ I will go” and went forth, firm in faith, as did Abra ham. (9) What the heart and hands find to do, do with thy might, and do it now. (10) Rebekah met her beloved in the open, as Christ will meet His bride in the air. VUU This lesson gives us the picture of an ideal home, a praying husband and a willing wife. Individual and domestic happiness h a n g s LESSON upon the thread of ILLUSTRA- wedlock. S h a k e TIONS speare said, “ A light wife makes a heavy husband.” And another has said “ Marriage is a feast where the grace is sometimes better than the din ner.” For often “Men are April when they woo, December when they wed ”
