Lake Garda’s Wonderful Western Shores The western side of Lake Garda is a popular destination where you can discover enchanting villages whilst enjoying stunning views. Our family-run, secluded hotel in Toscolano Maderno is approximately 150m from the lakefront and provides friendly service with a good value, inclusive package, which includes a bar promotion with free drinks every day. Enjoy great hospitality in between exploring this beautiful region! SUGGESTED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Sirmione Today we drive to the attractive, medieval spa town of Sirmione, known for the healing properties of its thermal springs, to enjoy exploring the narrow, winding lanes at our leisure. With a rich historical and artistic heritage, the two main attractions are its ancient Roman Villa ruins, known as the Grotte di Catullo, and the 13th century Scaligero Castle. On our way back to Toscolano we can enjoy a fascinating olive oil tasting visit at Frantoio Manestrini, located in the beautiful rolling hills of the Valtenesi, with wine tasting also thrown in – well, we are in Italy! Day 3 Salò & Gardone This morning we visit the stunning town of Salò, boasting the longest lakeside, pedestrianised promenade on Lake Garda. Traces of its prestigious past can be seen along the main street in the elegant historic centre lined with beautiful buildings, pretty boutiques and restaurants. Saturday is market day, so we might also enjoy browsing the stalls. In the afternoon, we visit Gardone Riviera, a small yet beautiful resort with a piazza sloping towards the lakeshore and a peaceful promenade framed by flower boxes; just the type of town you can picture yourself lazing away your afternoons. Day 4 Toscolano Driver’s Day Off Today we have a day at leisure. The two towns of Toscolano and Maderno are joined together on a headland and naturally offer fabulous lakeside views. We can walk to the pretty port and beach area and relax, watching the boats gently bobbing up and down on the lake and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Day 5 Mantova & Desenzano del Garda The UNESCO-protected little city of Mantova, or Mantua, is one of the best kept secrets in Northern Italy. Known as La Bella Addormentata (Sleeping Beauty), it is surrounded by artificial lakes and has remained remarkably untouched by modern development. The stunning Palazzo Ducale dominates the city; it is the only residence in Italy that can claim to cover more square feet than the Vatican and is a marvellous combination of medieval and Renaissance architecture and artistic expression. Other notable buildings include the striking cathedral of Duomo di Mantova, with its Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque architecture, as well as Palazzo Te, where incredible frescoes adorn the interiors. The beautiful Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Sordello are both lined with cafés and restaurants. We return to the hotel with a stop at the vibrant and fashionable lakeside resort of Desenzano del Garda. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
