Bruges

Something’s Brewing in Belgium – We’ll Drink to That! The lovely seaside resort of Ostend is the base for our fabulous tour and as a bonus our hotel offers unlimited drinks with dinner. We have time to explore this charming city, as well as the historic city of Bruges where we get a real taste of Belgium with a brewery tour and tasting. By adding a fourth night, we can make it a trio of Flemish cities with a visit to historic Ghent, complete with scenic boat cruise. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Ostend We spend today at leisure in Belgium’s most popular seaside resort, and our base for the next few nights, Ostend. With its individual charm, characterful seafront and marina, bustling markets and shops, and great seafood restaurants, Ostend is perfect for a leisurely break, taking a stroll along the pier or relaxing on the beach. With our free day we might like to visit the Atlantic Wall Open Air Museum, James Ensor House, the abandoned medieval fishing village of Walraversijde – now home to a museum – or the interactive Museum Amandine, which is moored in Ostend’s marina. Day 3 Bruges This morning we have time at leisure to explore the historic city of Bruges. Famous for its beautiful medieval architecture, including the Belfry bell tower and fabulous Church of Our Lady, there is plenty to admire here. To see the city in style, why not opt for a horse-drawn carriage ride through the winding streets, or take to the picturesque canals for a boat cruise? In the afternoon we head to the Brewery Bourgogne des Flandres to find out more about one of Belgium’s most famous exports. On our 1 hour guided tour , we discover the brewing process, meet the brewer in the attic and enjoy a tasting in the alehouse. Day 4 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home. Or, why not extend to a 4 night stay as below: Day 4 Ghent Today we visit Flemish city, Ghent, which boasts an opera house, museums, ancient churches and dozens of bridges. We spend the morning at leisure with time to explore this lovely city. Look out for the medieval belfry with its echoing bell, which, in the past, used to alert Belgium’s rulers of enemy advancements. Nowadays, it’s just part of the city’s charm! In the afternoon we embark on a 50 minute circular cruise , tucking into sandwiches and tea/coffee whilst we discover Ghent from the water. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
