Monschau
Valkenburg & Three Countries Tour With a choice of two fantastic hotels, our fabulous tour to Limburg in South Holland features a free day in Valkenburg, a visit to Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in Holland, and even a wine tasting. We also hop over to neighbouring Germany and Belgium to visit the charming Monschau and the city of Liège, and visit a beautiful abbey turned brewery. SUGGESTED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Valkenburg Driver’s Day Off We enjoy a day at leisure in Valkenburg today. Famous for its caves and castle, and with numerous shops, restaurants and cafés to browse, there’s plenty to do. We could visit the striking Valkenburg Castle ruins, the only castle in the country built on a hill, or go underground to explore the fascinating cave network beneath it instead! We may also wish to try out the chairlift, which transports us above Valkenburg for a bird’s eye view of the city (with an optional toboggan ride down!) Day 3 Three Countries Tour (Germany, Holland & Belgium!) Today we embark on a circular driving tour taking in three countries: Germany, Belgium and Holland. We make our way to Germany this morning to visit Monschau, a charming town in western Germany known for its medieval centre, half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets. We then cross over the border to Belgium to see Liège, the largest Wallonia city, located on the picturesque Meuse River. We enjoy some free time for lunch and to explore the city’s attractions, which include the stunning St Paul’s Cathedral, the famous 374-step Montagne de Bueren staircase, La Boverie museum and the pretty Parc Boverie. This afternoon we make a pitstop at the Abbaye Val-Dieu, located in the centre of the Liège-Maastricht-Aachen triangle. Founded in 1216 by Cistercian monks, the fabulous abbey now houses a brewery and is also known for its cheese. We can enjoy a taste before making our way back to our hotel. Day 4 Maastricht & Wine Tasting We board our coach this morning and travel the short distance to Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in Holland. We can enjoy a 1 hour boat trip on the River Maas, taking in the sights of Maastricht, passing through 3 locks before exploring the city at our leisure. We then rejoin our coach for the short trip to Apostelhoeve, where we enjoy a tour of the vineyard and wine tasting. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
