Eifel National Park & Lake Rursee
The Eifel Hills Are Alive Staying in Düren, our brilliant tour takes us to the scenic Eifel Hills region. Here, we admire the picturesque Eifel National Park, visit the beautiful Maria Laach Abbey and enjoy a relaxing Rursee lake cruise. We also explore some delightful, historic towns, including Bad Münstereifel, Aachen, Valkenburg and Monschau. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Bad Münstereifel & Maria Laach Abbey We spend this morning driving through the picturesque Eifel National Park, where the remote countryside is amazingly unspoilt and is one of the most beautiful areas in western Germany. Our journey takes us to the romantic town of Bad Münstereifel where we spend time at leisure enjoying the charming town centre, with its half-timbered buildings and views of the area. We then make our way to Maria Laach Abbey , a six-towered Benedictine abbey next to Laacher See, a volcanic lake surrounded by a nature reserve. Home to over 60 monks and considered a masterpiece of German Romanesque architecture, two prayers and worships are held here daily which are open to the public. We enjoy a guided tour of the grounds and gardens during our visit. Day 3 Aachen & Valkenburg Our excursion today will cover both Germany and Holland. Our first destination is Aachen , ancient capital of the Frankish Empire. We enjoy a 1.5 hour guided walking tour here, viewing the impressive sights of this historic city. Later, we cross the border into Holland to pay a visit to the beautiful town of Valkenburg, with its famous caves hewn into the rock creating a magical atmosphere. We have time here to wander around the medieval town to view the ancient walls and buildings before returning to our hotel. Day 4 Eifel National Park & Monschau This morning we journey to the northern part of the Eifel National Park and to its largest lake, the tranquil Rursee . We enjoy a relaxing cruise , travelling the length of the lake, before heading to Monschau, a charming picture-postcard town known for its medieval centre, half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets. We spend the afternoon at leisure here, exploring the idyllic townscape. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.

Located a short drive from the centre of Düren, the Hotel Mariaweiler Hof is ideally located for touring with convenient motorway access. The comfortable bedrooms are bright and traditionally furnished and are equipped with air- conditioning, TV and hairdryer. There is no lift but ground floor rooms are available. The welcoming restaurant is tastefully decorated with the large windows offering pleasant views. Regional and international dishes are on the menu and guests can also relax with a drink in the cosy bar.
