Tratzberg Castle

Today is spent at leisure in our resort. We can enjoy our hotel’s facilities or venture out into our resort centre to browse the shops, bars and cafés while admiring the lovely mountain views. Day 3 Zillertalbahn & Tratzberg Castle We start our day in style by travelling on the Zillertalbahn . We marvel at the peaks and the jagged rocks of the scenery on our 32 kilometre journey to the lovely resort of Mayrhofen. We have some free time here before visiting the magnificent Tratzberg Castle , where we enjoy a guided tour . We learn more about the history of the Castle, which is first mentioned in documents dating from the 13th century. After falling into ruin, it was rebuilt by the Fugger family and became a classic example of 16th century Tyrolean castles. Day 4 Achenseebahn & Boat Cruise This morning we embark on the Achenseebahn , Europe’s oldest cog railway, which is still steam operated. Puffing through the steeper sections, it rises to a 16% gradient from Jenbach to Seespitz. From here we re-join our coach for the short journey to the resort town of Pertisau. We enjoy time at leisure before relaxing on a one-way cruise from Pertisau to the northern shores of lovely Lake Achen, in Scholastika. Day 5 Pinzgauer Lokalbahn & Krimml Waterfalls Today we make our way to Zell am See for a leisurely browse around this classic Tyrolean resort before we embark on a scenic railway journey on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn , jangling through the Pinzgau mountains and Salzach Valley to Mittersill. We continue by coach to the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls , Austria’s highest falls with a total height of 380 metres. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
