Sirmione

Gastronomic Garda Italy, and Lake Garda in particular, is renowned for great food and wine. On this fantastic tour we take you on a tasty journey to the hidden treasures and gems in and around Lake Garda. Our ideally situated lakefront hotel provides a wonderful base from which to experience the natural beauty of the region and experience some fabulous gastronomic delights, including wine tasting at a 500 year old historic wine estate and an amazing lunch at a traditional trattoria. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Bardolino Driver’s Day Off Bardolino lies at the foot of rolling hills covered with orchards, olive groves and the vineyards for which the town is so famous. We spend today at leisure enjoying its medieval, traffic-free centre. Its main square is full of inviting pavement cafés where you can simply relax and enjoy a glass of the locally produced wine. The cosmopolitan promenade stretches for 3km along the lakefront to neighbouring Garda. Should you wish, you could take a ferry to nearby Lazise, a hidden gem of a beautiful historic walled town, and enjoy lunch at the Trattoria ‘Da Oreste’, a charming lakeside restaurant with stone vaulted ceilings serving up ‘risotto alla tinca’ (tench risotto), their flagship dish! Day 3 Mantua & Borghetto sul Mincio Today we head south to the stunning city of Mantua. Boasting a fine medieval centre which is easy to walk around, it is home to one of the finest Ducal Palaces in Italy. There are plenty of cafés and shops plus small, characterful restaurants tempting visitors with the local Mantuan specialities ‘tortelli con la zucca’ (ravioli stuffed with pumpkin) and ‘sbrisolona’ (biscuit cake with almonds). We then journey to one of Italy’s loveliest villages, Borghetto sul Mincio, where we have time to stretch our legs and enjoy a cappuccino overlooking Borghetto’s scenic weir and river. Day 4 Salò & Wine Tasting This morning we make our way to the delightful lakeside town of Salò, which boasts the longest promenade in all of Lake Garda. We enjoy free time to explore and enjoy some lunch in this historic location before driving into the beautiful Valtenesi countryside until we reach Cantine Redaelli de Zinis. Here we indulge in some delicious wine tastings and a brief visit to the cellars. Day 5 Sirmione & Lunch This morning we visit the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Lake Garda, the peninsula of Sirmione, with its lovely moated castle and medieval centre. From here we travel into the countryside, which bore witness to many battles, where we discover the small chapel at San Martino della Battaglia, which pays homage to this epic period of history with its astonishing ossuary. We then continue to Trattoria da Arturo for lunch. We enjoy some of the best handmade pasta we will ever taste, ‘bigoli al ragu’, with some grilled meats washed down with homemade wine – a relaxing and authentic Italian experience! Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
