the memory of Phil Arber, a community- minded individual responsible for organi- zing the craft show andmany other popular events in Vankleek Hill.The three-day holi- day craft sales event is at the community centre at 36 Mill Street, above the arena. St. Jude Catholic School along Route 34, near the Happy Hollow Road intersection in Vankleek Hill, hosts its One Stop Christ- mas Shop event Nov. 25. Local artists, craf- ters, and others offer a wide assortment of unique items for the holiday season. Doors open at 10 a.m., and admission just requires donation of any canned or non-perishable food item for the local Christmas hamper program, to help make the season a little merrier for families in need. Santa Claus will make early appearances during the last week of November and the first week of December, during Christmas

It’s getting close to time for a certain special person to leave his home at the North Pole for a round-the-world faster-than-light flight to deliver Christmas cheer. Residents of Hawkesbury, Champlain Township and surrounding areas who want to get a head start on raising their own holiday spirit shouldmark on their calendars these Christmas-themed events. For everyone in search of something unique for Christmas gift giving, there are the 2017 Christmas Craft Show in Vankleek Hill and the St. Jude One Stop Christmas Shop over the Nov. 24 weekend. This year’s VKH Christmas Craft Show runs from Nov. 24 to 26 and is dedicated to
parades in various Prescott-Russell com- munities. He is the star of the Vankleek Hill Christmas Parade Dec. 1, which makes its way alongMain Street starting at 7 p.m.The following day he will be the featured guest at the Hawkesbury Christmas Parade, which also starts at 7 p.m., and follows alongMain Street from the James Street intersection to the Hamilton Street intersection. Vankleek Hill is sometimes known as the Gingerbread Capital of Ontario because of the wealth of gingerbread-style decorative wood ornamentation mouldings on the porches of many of its heritage homes. What started as a friendly competition among students at area high schools has now become a popular seasonal event and this year the competition, along with a display of the results, takes place Dec. 16 at the Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute during the regular weekend Farmers Market venue.
