In celebration of World Bartender Day on February 24th, we proudly highlight esteemed bartender I Komang Juliastawa, known as Astawa, who represented both The Laguna Bali and his native Karangasem Regency at the 2024 APEC Bartender Championship. Astawa’s signature cocktail, Karangasem 47, pays tribute to Bali’s rich traditions while incorporating tropical flavors. The cocktail blends the iconic Monkey 47 Gin, renowned for its complexity, with Maraschino Campari, creating a balanced, innovative drink. A nod to the local environment, it features honey from wild Apis Mellifera bees, nourished by the nectar of tropical fruit flowers in Karangasem’s pristine forests, as well as pineapples and lemons cultivated at The Laguna.

This unique creation not only celebrates local heritage but also exemplifies eco-conscious innovation, reflecting the resort’s commitment to sustainability. Astawa’s exceptional skill earned him the top ranking among all Indonesia MI properties, and he was a finalist at the MI APEC Finals in Singapore, where he also won The Best APEC Negroni award.
