SANG HYANG SAMPAT DANCE In Puluk-Puluk Village, this sacred dance, performed before the Ngusaba Gede festival, serves as a guardian for rice crops, safeguarding them from pests and disease. SIAT SAMBUK On the eve of Nyepi in Pohgending, young men engage in a dramatic “war” using burning coconut husks, a ritual designed to cleanse the village of malevolent forces and usher in a new year with purity. TRADISI MAPEED At Pura Alas Kedaton, women in white kebaya carry offerings in a ceremonial procession. UPACARA MRETEKA / NGABEN BIKUL (TIKUS) In Bedha Village, this bhuta yadnya ceremony, known as Ngaben Tikus, is conducted to protect rice crops from pests, ensuring the harvest remains abundant and unharmed. TRADISI MESURYAK On Kuningan Day in Bongan Gede Village, Mesuryak features villagers joyfully tossing money into the air as offerings to ancestors, symbolizing prosperity and connection to the past. TARI LEKO From Banjar Tinungan, Apuan Village, this almost- extinct dance performed to bamboo instruments showcases symbolic movements and invites lively audience participation, celebrating traditional rhythms. TRADISI OKOKAN In Kediri Village, participants wear large wooden cowbells, a tradition that began in 1960 to ward off a mysterious illness and protect the community from harm. TARI OLEG TAMBULILINGAN Crafted by I Ketut Marya, this famous Balinese dance, inspired by “Sleeping Beauty,” features romantic and graceful movements, embodying a tale of love and enchantment. TARI REJANG AYUNAN Performed in Pupuan Village during temple festivals (piodalan), this sacred dance is a visual prayer and offering to deities, merging devotion with artistry. TARI TANI, KREASI DAN HARAPAN Emerging from the success of Tari Wiranatha in 1957, Tari Tani was innovatively developed by I Dewa Agung Ngurah Anom Mayun and local artists. Initially lacking music, it was later perfected with the help of esteemed dancers and musicians, creating a harmonious blend of dance and gamelan music. These traditions are a testament to Tabanan’s rich cultural tapestry, deeply woven into the community’s daily life and spiritual practices.
