Construction is underway on the Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse at Devon Park, marking progress on one of the projects funded through Oklahoma City’s voter- approved 2025 General Obligation Bond program. The $21 million project will add a 30,000-square- foot indoor softball training facility on the west side of Devon Park, further strengthening the venue as Oklahoma City prepares to stage softball competition during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and looks to secure the NCAA Women’s College World Series beyond 2035. The fieldhouse will include two indoor practice infields, allowing teams to practice simultaneously in separate spaces, along with team locker rooms, sports medicine areas, a weight room and other support spaces. An enclosed, climate-controlled connection will link the facility directly to the stadium. “Our vision for Oklahoma City has always centered on creating a world-class home for softball, and the Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse is another major step toward that future,” USA Softball CEO Craig Cress said. The fieldhouse is funded through the $2.7 billion 2025 GO Bond program approved by Oklahoma City voters. The bond includes 547 projects across the city, including investments in streets, bridges, parks, public safety facilities and other infrastructure. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce also contributed $8 million for additional improvements at Devon Park, including new chairback seating, improved practice fields and an upgraded sound system. The investment builds on Devon Park’s role as a national destination for softball and comes as Oklahoma City prepares to welcome the sport to the Olympic stage in 2028. “It’s fun when we’re here because we get to say that we’re the world capital of softball, and we don’t even have to feel like we’re joking or like we’re pushing the envelope with that statement,” Mayor David Holt said. “It’s unquestionable. We’re actually the home of USA Softball, and the world’s greatest teams and the world’s greatest athletes will come here in just two years for the Olympics.” City officials also hope the fieldhouse will eventually earn designation as a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee training site. Construction is expected to take about 18 months.
