In a glass vase on my desk are two beau tiful lilies, on which from time to time I feast my eyes. While in abounding beauty at first, they are beginning to show signs o f fading, in spite of daily and tender care. I thank God for all His wondrous handi work, but these choice flowers remind me that only He who is the Lily of the Val ley and the Rose of Sharon is fadeless, and there comes to mind the marvelous thought that some day I shall look upon Him in all His beauty, and “shall be like him,” and unlike my table lilies, will con tinue to glow with beauty throughout the endless ages, for I “shall see him as he is.” ,’ ^ H . AUGUST 11 ’ “ The waters were to the knees . . . to the loins" (Ezek. 47:4). A' supernatural pressure, sometimes of deep sadness and keen suffering, will drive us to our knees; and as we pour out our hearts and roll over our burden, there will come to us such a sense o f God’s presence that we shall know that we are praying in the Holy Ghost, and it will be “water to the knees.” Still the river flows onward and downward, and now it is “water to the loins.” The loins always ctand for the seat of life and power. The girded loins mean strength, energy, power. “Water to the loins” therefor» signifies the spirit of power, enduement for service. This is one of the Holy Spirit’s chief ministries. “Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me.” Beloved, do you know anything of this divine enabling? H B Q B. S impson . AUGUST 12 “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power” (Col. 1:11). The eagle, having been released from its shell, cannot be confined to its nest or its native crag, but commits its wings to the boundless blue and flies in the face of the sun. Christianity was no local cult or ra cial religion to be tethered to its mountain- top in Jerusalem. And neither is your praise o f Him who made you a “new creat ure in Christ Jesus” to be confined to some empty, sagging, last year’s nest. Soar aloft with it today, on God-given wings o f cour age, in the teeth of the gale. “Make his praise glorious.” Are you behaving, like the noble creature that you are in Christ, or are you merely hopping about lamely, twittering complaints ?—S elected .
