COULD ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION BACK YOU UP? Private Car Crash Investigation 101
Part of being a good attorney is admitting that you just don’t know it all — and for some extremely serious traffic accidents, the police won’t, either. No, when we need extra help proving the cause or severity of your crash, we call an accident reconstruction expert, traffic accident reconstruction engineer, or private crash investigator. They all mean the same thing, so I’ll tell you the basics of what you need to know about them.
remember the accident because they suffered a traumatic brain injury or got knocked unconscious at impact (which is a telling sign of at least a concussion). When you’re up against a hard-nosed trucking company that has its own investigators, well, you’ll want experts on your side, too. It is critical that you act quickly because evidence can disappear quickly! That evidence will help the investigator estimate the speed of the vehicles before and after impact, pinpoint the impact location of the vehicles, and present the angle of impact where the vehicles struck each other. This involves calculations that only they know how to do — that’s why they’re the experts and we’re not. If you act in time, the expert will be able to inspect the vehicles, preserve evidence, measure skid marks (this is particularly time-sensitive), get info from data recorders in cars and almost all semitrucks, and create diagrams (or computer animations) that can be shown and potentially help win your case. When I hire an expert, I care most that they’re honest. A hired gun who just tells me what they think I want to hear can get smoked by the other side, and that can kill your case. I’d like to talk with you and answer questions about these experts, including cost (good news there!). Call me at 888.230.1841 or find us online at BHollandLawFirm.com.
We’d consider hiring an accident reconstructionist if liability was hotly contested in a case with severe injuries or a wrongful death or where someone can’t
