FLASHPARKING Austin’s FlashParking has merged with Chicago-based parking startup Arrive as the parking industry looks to rebound from a tumultuous 2020. The two companies announced the deal Jan. 5 but did not disclose terms. The merger will create an “operating system for the new way to manage mobility,” the companies said in a statement. Founded in 2011, FlashParking makes parking management software for parking garages. Last year it raised $60 million in a strategic investment from private equity firm L Catterton. Part of FlashParking’s vision is to reimagine parking garages as spaces that could act as a resting spot for Uber and Lyft drivers, charge electric vehicles, or house electric scooters, among other things.

The company, which has raised about $3.5M in funding, officially changed its address to Austin on Jan. 1. Its HQ is near Lakeway at the Fuse coworking space at 14425 Falcon Head Blvd., although it’s operating remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It currently has five employees there, and it’s planning to hire two or three more full-time people for its sales and marketing team in the next six months, Truelytics CEO Jeremi Karnell told Inno via email.

ELECTRA BEVERAGES The sports beverage startup with roots in Austin and Dallas went on ABC’s “Shark Tank” last week and landed a deal with Barbara Corcoran. It’s a $100K investment along with a $250K line of credit in exchange for a 30% stake. The portion of workers in Austin that can do their jobs from home, according to SmartAsset, which just named Austin the ninth best city in the United States for working from home. And the Austin metro’s unemployment rate of 5.2% in October was 1.5 percentage points lower than the national average, SmartAsset noted. Scottsdale, Raleigh and Plano took the top three spots in the ranking.
