There you have a description of true Christian love: first, it is a fruit of the Spirit for which God gives us the capacity. Second, this love will inevitably appear in the whole-hearted Christian as the force which drives him to do everything in his power to give others the same advantage of the knowledge of Christ that he him self possesses, to find the most effi cient place for himself in the great work of the Church of going into all the world and preaching the gospel to every creature. need for medical assistance and vita mins of all kinds for the undernour ished men, women, and especially children. Who is going to do this? We pray that missionaries will be sup plied with provisions that they may, with the message of salvation, directly assist those in physical need. Italy is at the cross-roads of revolu tion, but what it really needs is re generation. The time for evangelism is now, for the door is still open. I left nine new fields with an average of two hundred born-again souls in each field. Among them are lawyers, doctors, university students, men and women, boys and girls, from all walks of life. A leader has been assigned to each field, but they have only one Bible and a statement of the fundamental ar ticles of faith which I translated into Italian. They are soul winners, but they need more training in “ rightly dividing the word of truth.” The Lord has put a burden on my heart that upon my early return to Italy we may build tabernacles for meeting places and establish a Bible Institute. Pray that this may come to pass in a very, very short time, as there is no time to lose before the doors may be closed or the Lord return. REMEMBER THE BIBLE INSTITUTE IN YOUR WILL We suggest that our friends should remember the Bible In stitute of Los Angeles in their wills. The proper form for this is: “ I give, devise and bequeath the sum of $ ..........to the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Inc., 558 South Hope Street, Los An geles 17, California.” TWO YEARS IN ITALY (Continued from Page H )

was about to prove to his companions that the missionary really loved the Indians and respected them as people, the missionary knew that some sort of an answer was inevitable. The mis sionary hurriedly said, “ You eat one first and show me how!” Mbarihe took one himself and passed one to each of his friends. Then he grasped the body of the maggot, bit off its head, expelled it from his mouth, and sucked out the “ custard” (if you have ever driven along a country road in summer and seen butterflies squash against the windshield, you know what I mean by custard), then threw the empty skin on the ground. “ All right, Senor Pittman,” he said, holding up an other. By this time the missionary knew what to say: “ Ah-*-I don’t think I’ll have any today. You eat them. I’ll try one some other day. Just go ahead and eat them yourselves.” As soon as Mbarihe heard these words and realized what they meant, his face fell. When the missionary saw disillusionment in the Indian’s face, his mind immediately went back to the Apostle Paul who was willing to be all things to all men to win some. He knew he would have to bring himself to eat one of those maggots. There was no escaping it even though the thought was so dis tasteful. So he did the thing Mbarihe had done: he took hold of the mag got by its body, bit off its head quickly, spit it out, and sucked out the custard. They were not so bad after all. He really didn’t taste any thing at all. Later he learned that these jungle maggots are really de licious. You know love is a fruit of the Spirit: “ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace . . .” (Gal. 5:22,23). This kind of fruit cannot be tied on! It is produced automatically when the Spirit has possession from within. Only He can make us truly love others. The very heart of the gospel is love, “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16). As He loved a lost world and gave His Son for its salvation, so must we love and seek to win souls for Him. “ Hereby know we love, be cause he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth” (1 John 3:16-18 R.V.). F E B R U A R Y . 1 9 5 1
