Dear Friends, The City of Irvine is excited to share some exciting news. With the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Older Adult Services, 2023 through 2028 , our goal has been to use more age-inclusive language to identify the older adult population. You may have noticed the name of this publication has changed to Irvine Connection for Older Adults . Additionally, you will now find program- ming for ages 50 and older in the Older Adults section of Inside Irvine . We are eager for the updates and hope they will help foster a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all. Mark your calendars for two exciting events this summer. The annual Variety Show is Thursday, August 8, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Lakeview Senior Center. Attendees will enjoy an afternoon of theatrical entertainment performed by their peers. The Healthy Living Expo is Friday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to Noon at Lakeview Senior Center. This free event features more than 40 exhibitors, City of Irvine resources, fitness demonstra- tions, educational presentations, and more. Connecting Older Adults in Our Community

Celebrate National Senior Centers Month in September. September is National Senior Centers Month and a time to celebrate how these centers pro- vide opportunities for older adults in our com- munity to connect with one another. There are over 11,000 senior centers nationwide, all serv- ing as essential community spaces for people to socialize, engage in activities, access resources, and receive support. Studies show social connections are an essential need throughout our lives and as we age. Irvine is fortunate to have three centers dedicated to programs and services for older adults, Lakeview and Rancho senior centers and Trabuco Center. These centers promote social and cultural con- nections through recreational and enrichment programs for older adults. The Keen Center for Senior Resources, located in Lakeview Senior Center, offers health screenings, counseling, transportation assistance, nutritional services, and more. These services help maintain independence as we age. The resources offered through the Keen Center promote independence and healthy aging. Irvine Senior Services will be hosting a series of programs at Lakeview and Rancho senior centers and Trabuco Center throughout the month of September. Participants who join these programs will have their name entered into an opportunity drawing at the Healthy Living Expo Friday, September 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakeview Senior Center (see Page 4) .

Help us celebrate National Senior Centers Month by joining us for any of the programs below. You can find more details and register at yourirvine.org .
