1. TRANSMISSION CHAINS

Power transmission chains are classified into six major groups.

1.1 Standard Roller Chains. These chains are designed for general usage.

1.2 High Performance Chains. These chains have higher tensile strength and greater fatigue strength.

1.3 Lube-Free Chains. These chains have longer wear life than standard chains without lubrication.

1.4 Environmentally Resistant Chains. Chains with special corrosion resistance.

1.5 Specialty Chains, Type 1. For specific applications.

1.6 Specialty Chains, Type 2. For general designs. Within these six groups, there are many types of chains available (Figure 1.1). In the following sections, we will discuss the various types.
