SEALED SYSTEMS

“A sealed system is closed to the atmosphere, eliminates the feed and expansion tank as well as associated pipework, thus reducing the risk of contamination, corrosion, and noise in the system.”

main heating system. This maintains a constant pressure within the heating system helping to reduce energy consumption. THE ROLE OF A FILLING LOOP Although filling loops are a key element to a sealed system, they are not to be connected permanently to a boiler. After the system has been filled and pressurised, the service valves must be closed, the system isolated and the flexible hose removed and stored until it is used again. The Altecnic ALT-ST0035 filling loop consists of a double check valve, a flexible hose with union connectors, sealing washers and a ball isolating valve with 4 bar pressure gauge. This can be pre-installed into the isolation valve, meaning that when isolated from the flexi loop and double check valve attached to the mains, it is exposed to the system pressure in the heating circuit. With this is mind, the ALT-ST0035 has been designed to be installed in places engineers and homeo-wners can easily

access without the need to disturb the boiler. This means that they can read the system pressure, check for pressure drop and, if needed, top up the system quickly. PROTECTING THE SYSTEM WITH SAFETY RELIEF VALVES Safety relief valves are typically used for controlling pressure on boilers in heating systems, on stored hot water cylinders in domestic hot water systems, and in water systems generally. When the calibrated pressure is reached, the valve opens and, by means of discharge in the atmosphere, prevents the pressure of the system from reaching levels which would be dangerous for the boiler and components in the system itself. By doing this, the safety of a system is maintained, and the system can continue working efficiently. ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS In an effort to improve the installation experience for an installer, Altecnic have developed a neat, simple four- way connector called the ‘quattro’. The quattro facilitates the connection of the

water inlet, safety valve, pressure vessel and the system, with it also being the only four-way connection which gives the installer the possibility for either left or right installation on the system. The quattro is featured in the Altecnic Robokit Extra®. Finally, a mounting bracket enables installers to fit the sealed system with ease, ensuring that the expansion vessel is not left unsupported on the pipework. By providing the most high-quality products in a single kit, Altecnic aim to make converting open vent systems to a sealed system easy, especially as we move into the busiest season of the year for plumbing and heating engineers. “By providing the most high-quality products in a single kit, Altecnic aim to make converting open vent systems to a sealed system easy.”
