6. Executive Director’s Report a. Legislative Update
i. Congressional Update we have a number of legislative issues that may have some legs right now. We want to push our legislative agenda. We have a new Executive Order that we want to combine with a Joint Resolution of Congress on Nation to Nation. We are in a weird era where Governors are being very anti-Indian. Kristi Noem in SD, Stitt in OK. We know there is some frustration with the regulatory actions. When the Corps of Engineers starts giving permits, it creates strange bedfellows with the anti-environmental folks. It is all within the Biden administrations purview to address some of these issues. ii. Tribal Casino Issues for 2024 1. Sports Betting Online betting are hot button. The economy is red hot and wages are going up. Tribal casinos are very strong right now. The two largest tribal gaming jurisdictions do not have sports betting. We have Fan Duel and Draft Kings on our membership agenda this year. The only path forward for them in many states is to work with tribes.
Comment by Rosemary Morillo - In our TASIN Meeting one of the urgent topics was the vacancy at NIGC. Is there a candidate being put forward that we can get behind? I know Secretary Haaland also, thought this was an important appointment. Response from Jason Giles-We sent out a letter in December about the upcoming vacancies. We were under the impression of from Sequoyah that he was going to stay through until a replacement was named. There have been a number of applicants who withdrew due to the background investigations. I
