There are all the actual rainbow colors, in their real sky-order, too—you want to. stop and examine the beautiful thing and see how it is done, this modern wonder of the street! It may be all in the space of a few inches or a foot in dia meter; it may make the whole circle as the sky-rainbow cannot, or it may begin and streak oft away to one side towards or in>the gutter. But it is all there, and made by the same hand that makes the sky-rainbow. Many a person has never see l it, though tramping across scores of them; so blind are we, oftentimes, to humble things, failing to see the handiwork of God-One lesson we may draw from all this is that God can make rainbows of beautiful, regenerated character and life on the background of almost en tire darkness and error, if only we can persuade the victims of such systems to let Him have them for His mighty work within. Multitudes have expe rienced this, and multitudes more will do so if His messengers to them are faithful; for He never fails to do His wondrous work in the soul if the one condition is met. And what a work it is to lead souls to accept such wonder working power within and let Him change them forever! And do we not often forget—we Christians who have had somewhat of His beauty worked within—that it is a part of our duty to help get rainbows into hearts yet darkened by leading them to see and utterly yield to Him? Hearts in dark ness are not according to His will, but are often because some poor Christian had failed to do his part.—Light on Mormonism.
MAKING A START IN CHRIST
tasted death, IN HIS, the sinner's STEAD!” The result? The sinner re ceives “eternal life,” whereas his Just due was to suffer “eternal death.” All of which explains Just why Jesus could say: “This is life eternal that they might know * • • Jesus Christ • • •" The word "know” is one of a number of Greek words translated by our English “know.” It literally means “to know by experience.” . Thus any sinner who will commit himself to the sinless Son of God by accepting Christ’s death as substitutionarlly suf fered in his (the sinner’s) stead, will immediately come into eternal posses sion (see John 10:28-29) of eternal life. This is the “first step” in what the Bible calls "salvation” (Heb. 2:3). “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby WE MUST BE SAVED” (Acts 4:12). Or, to put it in Jesus' own words: "No man cometh unto the Father but by ME” (John 14:6). Dear reader, when you have fol lowed the above, that is, seen your sin fulness and helplessness; believed on your Saviour, the Lord Jesus, and "ac cepted God’s Word THAT YOU ARB, as a result, IN PRESENT AND ABID ING POSSESSION OF ETERNAL LIFE, you are what the Bible calls A BABE IN CHRIST” (1 Pet. 2:1). You are a babe in Christ because you have Just been “born again” (John 3:8). You are born again of “the Spirit” (John 3:6-6). He, the Spirit, “con victed you of sin” (John 16!8)—and your sin was “unbelief in Jesus” (John 16:9). Because of this convlo- tion of sin by the Holy Spirit “you were enabled to call Jesus Christ your Lord” (1 Cor. 12:4; cp. 1 Tim. 1:12). 'This, therefore, is “THE BEGIN NING” not “THE CLIMAX” of your Christian experience. God’s word to you now is this: “Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Sav iour Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18). THE LAND OF THE CLOSING DOOR That the Gospel may be preached in Mexico without violation of any of her laws, “The Latin American Prayer Fel lowship” has been organized to give the Gospel by Mexican Volunteers, who go out in the apostolic way—“two by two”—selling Gospels and books, telling the story of Calvary to the crowds in the markets and plazas, from house to house and town to town. This organization organizes no con gregations or denominational centers, but works in harmony with all other evangelical agencies. Last year over five hundred men and women accepted the Lord as a result of their labors, and a blessed revival was experienced. The Director, Mr. A. B. DeRoos, has bad long experience as a worker in Latin American countries and under stands fully their problems. The Home Address of the Fellowship is 2436 Fourth Street, Ocean Park, California.
OR fifty years Mr. Richard Wells has been a faithful member of the “Reformed Episcopal Church of the Atonement” of Germantown, Pennsylvania, where Pastor D. M. Stearns—beloved by thousands— lab ored so long and lovingly in a great missionary movement which brought large gifts from world-wide sources for world-wide service. Mr. Wells sends us for publication in The King’s Business a recent number of "Atone ment News,” their little church paper, containing the following helpful ex position of the plan of salvation: The Bible’s right to be finally heard in matters of which it treats, may be seen from the Greek of 2 Peter 1:21. For there we read that “.men of old spake a word from God as they were carried along under the Holy Spirit.” Through them God has shown us that "there is none (no one) righteous, no not one” (Rom. 3:10), all having sin ned. (Rom. 3:23). Not only so: the reason for man’s condition is traced to its source. "For as by one man, sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all sinned” (Rom. 6:12). The peculiar Greek tense of this word “Binned,” indicates that “all” sinned when the "one man, ADAM,” sinned. Now “the wages of sin is DEATH” (Rom. 6:23), and this death is “conscious, endless separation from the presence of God” (2 Thess. 1;7- 9) “in the lake of fire” (Rev. 20:10- 16). Such is man’s plight. Adam him self recognized it and covered himself with a clothure of his own. How ut terly useless was man’s attempt to help himself is seen from this: when God finally appeared on the scene Adam promptly fled! (Gen. 3:8). Moreover, there is coming a day when “fleeing will bring no relief.” Look it up for yourself in Rev. 6:16-17. Thank God that what man cannot “flee from,” he can “come to.” “COME UNTO ME,” said Jesus, “AND YE SHALL FIND REST—FOR YOUR SOULS” (Matt. 11:28-30). Jesus can give such an invitation because, first, “He is the world’s only sinless man” (Heb. 4:16). He can say it because, second, “He was made sin for us” (2 Cor. 6:21), bearing "OUR SINS in HIS OWN BODY on the tree,” i.e., "on the cross” (1 Peter 2:24). He can say it, third, because He asks sinful and otherwise hopeless man to come "be lieving.” - Here are His own words: “He that BELIEVETH on the Son HATH (pres ent tense, present possession) ever lasting life” (John 3:86). If the reader will turn to Rom. 3:2, and 1 Thess. 2:4 he will read the words “commit” and “put in trust.” In the original Greek of the Now Testament, these words “COMMIT, ENTRUST and BELIEVE” are one and the s ame ! Hence when a sinful and helpless sin ner believes on Jesus what he really does is “to cast himself upon the sin less One who paid the wages of sin,
