The roles and tasks of the participants in a skill station:
• Demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills at each skill station, drawing on their own work experiences and previous BST training
•
Provide peer feedback when encouraged by the instructor
• Use feedback from skill stations to identify own growth areas and focus their efforts during subsequent training scenarios
2. Further understanding of Training scenarios
What is an industry-relevant training scenario?
Training scenarios simulate real workplace situations, allowing participants to apply and refresh their basic safety knowledge, skills and abilities in a practical and industry-relevant context. These immersive exercises reinforce learning while enhancing participants' understanding and practical application of key skills.
Why do we use industry-relevant training scenarios?
• It offers the participant the opportunity to improve their ability to act safely at work - after the course
• Allows ability to introduce industry relevant circumstances that could occur during emergency (e.g. low visibility, noise from engines or alarms, time pressure, and environmental factors such as strong wind, high and low temperatures
• Maximises active participation and engagement in different roles for all learners
Role of the instructor
• Establish the scenarios in relevant locations in the training facility and set-up any equipment or resources needed

Assign roles to the participants in the scenario
• Outline the initial situation that the participants respond to and act on. This includes describing the environmental factors in the scene • Introduce new circumstances to scenario (e.g. introduce time pressure, further injuries, or equipment failures in accordance with the local training risk assessment)
•
Ensure safety throughout the scenarios
•
Conduct ongoing assessments (Participant Performance Assessment Form)
• Provide feedback on participants’ strengths and areas for improvement and initiate peer feedback
