Your GiftM a y B e Like The Widow's Mites

FOR OTHERS - unknown, unseen others. by one of His poorest children. Can you not hear His grave, quiet voice speaking as He points out to His disciples the greatness of her pitifully small sacrifice? "Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living." Thus did the nameless widow of the mites become one of the few whom our Lord ordained should be remembered through the Gospels for their good deeds. The number includes the centurion of Capernaum (Luke 7:2) for his faith; the woman with the alabaster cruse of ointment (Luke 7:37) for her love ; and the widow of the mites, for her sacrificial giving. Recently a friend, returned from a journey to the Holy Land, showed me a small bronze coin, of a size less than that of an American dime. "It is a widow's mite," he said, "a lepton of Palestine, the divinely appointed symbol of the grace of giving." How our thousands of friends would appreciate this, I thought. How boys and girls in Sunday-schools, churches and homes all over the land would welcome a reproduction of this tiny coin! How Christians everywhere will regard it with affection! It is the mightiest coin in the world, for there is no doubt that mil lions of money have been given to the cause of Christ as a result of this tiny widow's mite. And so I have ordered it reproduced in bronze, to be distributed among those who will respond to this appeal. Will you send us One, Five, Ten, Twenty, perhaps One Hundred Dollars in exchange for it? If you will do this, your gift will be used for the training of young people in the knowledge and teaching of His Word. This gift of yours will go very far. It will journey to India, to Africa, and to China, with the precious truths of a new life, an eternal future, and the presence of the ever-living Saviour's love, to be implanted in the hearts of brown and yellow and black folk, who know them not at all. We know it will be a lasting joy to you, as you look at your widow's mite, to remember that through it you, too, are engaged in Bible training and mission work, in the persons of the hundreds of young people you are assisting at Biola. And so I leave with you, the offer of a free widow's mite, asking your prayers, and if possible, your donation to the cause of Christian education. We hope you will send One Dollar or more for it. Addi tional widow's mites (for your friends or some favored Sunday- school group) will be mailed at 25 cents each, if you request them. Yours, because of Calvary,

President
