“Ah! but there is a difference,” he re sponded. "Yesterday Waterloo was a de feat; today it is a victory.” So those who have changed not their country but their nature (John 3:3; 2 Cor. 5:17) obtain Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.— 1.000 Tales Worth Telling, by P ickering . Paul’s Best Friend A cts 9:1-30 Memory Verse: “W e love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Approach: W e have been talking about Peter, that disciple of the Lord Jesus who started out very weak and faltering and who ended so Spirit-filled that God could

ness. The blindness itself constituted an unanswerable argument for the reality of his experience, just as the withered thigh of Jacob was the visible evidence of the reality of his experience at the Jabbok. It was impossible for him to dismiss the whole matter as a mere flight of disordered imagi nation. And this single fact of Paul’s phys ical blindness stands like a rock in the path of all the unbelieving critics who would explain away his conversion.

Whatever else his faults, Saul was never a man who hesitated when decisions had to be made. There comes rushing that one great question, " W ho art thou, Lord?” And the answer is exactly what we might ex pect it to be. Not "I am the Son of God." Nor “I am the Christ.” But “I am Jesus”; and to put the identification beyond all pos sibility of question, the Lord adds, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest." Nothing further was needed. With this one supreme revelation—that Jesus is Jehovah —the ca reer of Saul of Tarsus came to an end. The next question is the voice of a new man, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” This is the question of Faith, and Paul kept on asking it until he came to the end of the journey. 3. “H e was three days without sight”

best to do was to persecute the followers of Jesus. He hunted them out and brought them before the rul ers and wanted them to be beaten or put to death. But God had a use for this strong man. God would make a new and different man of him, and this is the way He did it. Lesson Story: Paul—who at that time was called Saul—heard that there were some Christians meeting in the city of Damascus. At once he got permission from the high priest to go after them and to bring them as prisoners to Jerusalem. But on the way something happened, the thing which was to change Paul. The Lord Jesus Christ spoke to Paul. W e read, “Sud denly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?” Paul could not believe his ears! What could this mean? "Who art thou, Lord?” he called out. And the answer came, “I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.” Paul stumbled to his feet, blinded by the blazing light. His friends helped him to the city. For three days Paul sat in dark ness thinking over the terrible mistake he had made. He realized now that Jesus was truly the Son of God. Then came a man, directed by God, to talk to Paul and to re store his sight. And now, instead of fight ing against God, Paul began to spend all of his time fighting [or Him and explaining to others the W ay of Life. He showed them that the Saviour, the Lord Jesus, is the only way to God.
