the most important city in Macedonia. Still there was no crowd to listen to him. But on the Sabbath day, Paul went down to the river side, and there he found a woman named Lydia and her family and friends. Had Paul come all of this way to preach to a few women? Yes, numbers and kind did not count. He preached the gospel message to them, and they believed. And we know that from this meeting on the river bank in Philippi, a strong church grew.

“ T h e Spirit is W orking” is a deeply spiritual book, born of a life-long personal experience. It deals with victory through the Spirit Him self, thus presenting the “Keswick” message in contrast to the many dis appointing, unscriptural doctrines of today. There are messages on the work of the Spirit in soul-winning, and evangelism, and most helpful suggestions to new converts and Personal Workers. The Secret of Spiritual Power and Blessing is clearly stated. A burning message out of the heart of a busy and successful Pastor and widely known Evangelist and Author. Objects: A piece of flint, a flashlight, a candle, and a hammer. Lesson: When the Lord Jesus was on earth, He told His disciples that they were the light of the world. He warned them against hiding their light under a bushel. This flint, flashlight, and candle repre sent three kinds of Christians. They all have light in them, but each gives light in a different way and from a different cause. The flint is cold and hard. I have seen people whose lives did not reveal that they were Christians, until some great hammer struck them. It may have been the hammer of death striking some loved one. Being a “Flint Christian” is not what Christ meant when He said, “Let your light . . . shine before men” (Matt. 5:16). The flashlight is very convenient, but the "Flashlight Christian” is not the best kind. The ordinary flashlight gives light when it is pressed, but when the pressure is removed, it is as dark and cold as the piece of flint. Many Christians are like the flashlight. They have to be cornered and put under pressure before they will confess Christ as their Saviour. Christians of this kind will not do very much to cause men to glorify God by their good works. The "Candle Christian” is the one who pleases Christ most. As the candle shines, it gives of itself. This is the way Christ wants us to shine for Him, as brightly on the school grounds as we do in church. This lighted candle reminds me of Paul. He saw the Macedonian vision and imme diately went, burning out his life that others might know of Christ. W e cannot give any light at all until we have accepted Christ as our Saviour, but when we have done that, let us be "Candle Christians,” letting our light shine for Him, as Paul did.

the Word had never been preached. But the Holy Spirit had other plans, and when Paul reached the coast, Paul had a vision of a man from across the water, from the country of Macedonia, stretching out his hands and begging him to come over to his country to preach. Immediately Paul and his helpers took sail for Mace donia. Paul never stopped when he knew God was leading him on. Lesson Story: When Paul reached Mace donia, not a person came to meet him as he got off the boat. But Paul was not dis couraged. He went at once to Philippi,
