“WE WILL REMEMBER THE RELATIONSHIPS AND FRIENDSHIPS WE HAVE FORMED” Kenza Wilks and Cameron Forbes presented prizes and gave speeches as guests

“We will all face struggles and difficulties throughout our academic careers and lives to follow. To try and succeed in absolutely everything would be an unrealistic expectation to set yourself. Instead, as you will soon discover, what is most important is finding the subject, society, activity or sport that appeals to you the most and then trying your absolute best to succeed at it. For me that was debating, and through the endless financial and academic support of the College, I have now come to represent the country as the captain of the National Debating Team and will be travelling to Bali to compete in a debate in a few weeks’ time. Many of the opportunities and achievements I now have to my name would not have been possible without the support of the College and for that I am forever grateful. Perseverance above all is an attitude that the Dulwich education tries to instil in every student and is by far the most valuable lesson that I have learnt during my time at the College. What I will remember most when I leave won’t be the lessons that I was taught in the classroom. Cameron and I both had our final exam on Monday of this week and we could both probably attest to the fact that in a few weeks’ time neither of us could tell you a single question that came up on that paper. Instead, we will remember the relationships that we have formed during our time at DC. What you should take from this is the fact that the results you get or prizes you win are not what will come to represent your time at the College but instead it will be defined by the memories you share with friends. When my last exam ended, my friends and I didn’t sit and think about what our results might be, we ran from the exam hall, patball in hand, and played patball on the court behind the maths block until we were too tired to continue. I promise that the happiness of those memories will be by far the greatest prize when you reach my (relatively) old age and look back on your time at school.” Kenza Wilks, School Captain
