n The search for blue plaques In Year 5 this term we are reading ‘Shackleton’s Journey’. This half term, we have been looking at Explorers inHistory, specifically those in Antarctica. During their time outside, two members of 5D have managed to find the houses of two polar explorers that we have looked at this half term: Shackleton and Scott. James has written a bit about how he found Scott’s house. ‘My family decided to go on a nice walk around Chelsea. We found many blue plaques, so my dad knew that Captain Robert Falcon Scott lived nearby, and I told him that we were studying him in History (I think he already knew that). So, we walked towards his house, and on the way, we saw the plaques of Bob Marley, and Oscar Wilde’s mother’s too. I thought we could take a picture and send it in to school, so we took some of me standing outside Scott’s old house’.
n During lockdown, Warren Duong played his cello for his elderly next-door neighbour, who was in isolation for a few months. He played: Jupiter, Smooth operator, Big Dipper, Gridlock, Kitchen Capers.
n Arun Slatter Clearedout oldbooks & DVDs over half term and held a sale outside his house to raise money for a children’s literacy charity. Arun and his brother, Kiran, have raised over £55 so far & still going! Well done for raising money for children who may not have so much.
