I was no stranger to Turnberry’s courses, yet the hotel had never previously been an accompaniment to any of my rounds of golf. I was making up for that omission, even if it was only for a day that flashed by in an instant. here had been murky rain and chilly winds in Scotland, but morning sunshine had fortuitously brought colour and brightness to the landscape as we detoured along the scenic coastal road from Prestwick to our destination further south in Ayrshire. A traffic-free drive through a succession of small villages, cruising over the Electric Brae and past Culzean Castle. Then it appeared on our left, the seafront Trump Turnberry hotel, a sight which has always left me spellbound.
