WHEN DISASTER STRIKES TWICE How We Fought for Justice Against All Odds

BREAK TAKE A truck, which caused Alaina to experience a torn lateral meniscus in her right knee. Unfortunately, to make matters worse, the police blamed her husband for not stopping in time and issued him a ticket. Of course, the road construction company also accused her husband When our client Alaina was involved in a severe crash, she and her husband were already in the midst of disaster. It began when the couple’s home was completely flooded during Hurricane Harvey, a catastrophic storm that displaced countless individuals, including Alaina and her husband. Since their home was severely damaged, the couple lived out of a motel for several months. But on their way back from the motel, the couple experienced a collision that seemed unprecedented and out of their control. As Alaina’s husband drove down the highway, they rounded a curve and were immediately faced by a work convoy truck parked in the left lane. Because it was placed right in the middle of the curve and without any warning signs, there was no way for Alaina’s husband to see the truck before it was too late. The couple painfully crashed into the back of the

of the collision and refused to take any responsibility for the accident. No firm wanted to take Alaina’s case, but she was determined to prove the truth, which was that her husband had no way of avoiding the truck. Luckily, the couple found the Brasher Law team, and we accepted her case and filed a lawsuit.

During litigation, our team uncovered that the road construction company failed to follow the plans approved by the Texas Department of Transportation that required the company to put up warning signs thousands of feet before the lane was blocked off. Since we revealed the truth and proved the couple’s innocence, we were able to settle on compensation that would cover Alaina’s medical expenses and the pain and suffering that occurred due to her injuries. It’s wins like this one that remind me why I do what I do. Despite Alaina and her husband facing a series of uphill battles, our team was able to help them find justice. I hope that anyone who feels as though their story hasn’t been heard can come to us and receive the support they need in their case. –Joe Muckleroy

• 1 28-oz can tomato sauce • 1 28-oz can diced tomatoes, undrained • 2 cups chopped green peppers

Reduce heat. Simmer uncovered until peppers are tender, about 30 minutes. 3. Add cooked rice and simmer, uncovered, for about 10 minutes. If desired, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley.
