W ith 2025 behind us, NSRA National Safety Director, Roger Barnhill has tabu- lated the numbers and completed his “End of Year Report.” The Top Ten Safety Teams have been deter- mined and this month we’re putting a spotlight on the top five. Next month we’ll shine the light on the rest of the Safety Teams making it into the NSRA Safety Division’s Top Ten for 2025. Roy Drumm and the Michigan Safety Team had another great year and finished in 1st place for 2025. Roy was appointed the Michigan State Inspector in January 2013, and his team has finished no lower than 4th during his tenure. Roy’s team, which has 23 members, attended 48 events in 2025. He had two members, William and son Alex Kline, who made every National event during the year, and the teams worked 54 shifts at all nine of the NSRA events. Roy had two nomi- nations for the Safety Picks at the Nationals and one was selected for the Circle of Winners. They inspect- ed 592 vehicles in 2025 and 200 of
to be in the Top Ten. John Walberg and the Minnesota Team have finished in 3rd place for 2025. This was John’s first year as the State Inspector, and the team rallied around him for a great year. John had one nomina- tion for the Safety Picks at the Nationals and it was selected for the Circle of Winners. The team worked 28 local runs and completed 575 inspections of which 205 were pre ‘49 and 370 were post ‘48 vehicles. The Minnesota team has 51 mem- bers and sold 11 new memberships, gave out six safety plaque awards this year, participated in one Appreciation Day and had one arti- cle printed in StreetScene. This is the 32nd consecutive time the Minnesota team has been in the Top Ten. Abe Jones and the Colorado Safety Team had another big year in 2025. Abe, in his second year as the Colorado State Inspector, led the team to 4th place again. The team is com- prised of 22 members who attended 38 local shows while inspecting 432 vehicles of which 157 were street rods. They worked a total of 12 shifts at two National events and had their one nomination make it to the Circle of Winners at the Nationals. They also worked 10 Appreciation/Safety Days. This is the 36th time the Colorado Safety Team has been a member of the Top Ten. Jimmy Hemmig, in his eleventh year as the State Inspector, led the East Pennsylvania Safety Team to a 5th place finish. His team, which is comprised of 12 members, attend- ed 57 local runs in 2025. They completed 488 inspections with 209 of them being street rods. Team members worked nine shifts at one National event. This is the seventh year in a row that, under Jimmy’s leadership, the Team has been in the Top Ten.

This will be the 44th time out of the last 45 years the Michigan team has been named to the Safety Division’s Top Ten. No other team has been ranked in the Top Ten as many times. Carol Barnhill and the Arkansas Team had a great year, but dropped back to 2nd place. This is Carol’s third year as the Arkansas State Inspector, but she has been on the team for 17 years. The team is com- prised of 20 men and women who completed 109 inspections in 2025 by working a total of 53 shifts at six National events. They also attended 25 local events. Carol had two nominations at the Safety Picks at the Nationals and one was selected for the Circle of Winners. They also co-hosted two Appreciation/Safety Days and handed out three safety awards during the year. The team sold five memberships, and Carol had eight Safety Articles printed in StreetScene. This is the seventh year for the Arkansas Safety Team
