El Mojito is North Platte’s first Cuban restaurant and marks a new chapter for the Denis brothers, who have overcome numerous obstacles to bring their pas- sion for food and their love for their homeland to the American Midwest. As they embark on this exciting venture, Jorge and Jose look forward to sharing their culture and cuisine with the wel- coming community of North Platte. The brothers’ story is a testament to the resilience, determination and unwav- ering spirit of immigrant entrepreneurs in America. The Denis brothers’ journey to North Platte is a tale of perseverance and the pursuit of the American dream. Around 2010, their mother and father made the decision to flee Cuba with Jorge, Jose and their sister. Initially, seeking refuge in Spain due to immigration challenges that prevented them from coming directly to the United States. After obtaining Spanish citizenship, they finally made their way to America in 2012. Settling in Miami, they became U.S. citizens. that Miami’s saturated market would make it difficult for them to stand out. However, when their sister moved to North Platte to take a job at the Walmart Distribution Center, Jorge and Jose saw an opportunity to turn their American dream into reality. “When we came to North Platte, we noticed no one had food with the flavors and spices that we were used to in Cuba,” says Jorge. The brothers are eager to invite the community to experience their culture through authentic Cuban food and drinks.
