WHAT WE ACCOMPLISH IN A YEAR Ready for 2018
Personally, I don’t care much for New Year’s resolutions. Too often, people set a major goal, try to undertake huge changes, and one small step backward is seen as a complete failure and cause to give up. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for setting goals, making changes, and bettering yourself. I believe, and research shows, that making small changes and doing them consistently, then adding more small changes and repeating this process, is the most effective way to create massive change over time. It’s called the “Compound Effect” (great book, by the way). Early last year, I turned 30, and even though I’m young to many of my patients, I was starting to notice a not-so-pleasant change along with my age. A combination of neglect and bad habits had led me to put on extra weight. In 2017, I committed to a series of small, good habits, and over the last year, I lost about 35 pounds. A quote to live by, especially this time of year, is “People overestimate what they can do in a month and underestimate what they can achieve in a year.” Regardless of whether your goals have to do with health, relationships, finances, or otherwise, it is critically important to identify the small daily steps you can take to get closer to reaching your goals. This year, in addition to committing to being a great dad and husband by making sure that I dedicate time for my family, I am also planning to take steps to ensure that this is the most important year yet in the life of our healthcare practice. If you are reading this, you are the reason that we come to work every day. Our mission is to help improve your health span, or the number of healthy and active years in your life. We do this by helping you hear and helping you improve your well-being with better balance and overall physical health.
PEOPLE OVERESTIMATE WHAT THEY CAN DO IN A MONTH AND UNDERESTIMATE WHAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE IN A YEAR.
Maybe you or a loved one has ignored a health issue such as hearing loss, dizziness, or risk of falling. If so, I’m sure it doesn’t come as a surprise that such a seemingly small issue in your daily life can compound into serious problems with your health and relationships. And maybe this is the year that you or a loved one take action and do that thing that you have been putting off. Maybe you were scared, apprehensive, or just too stubborn, but you’re ready to make a change. Let me encourage you to think about where you could be a year from now if you begin by taking small steps today and turning those small daily steps into habits that compound into profound change. Here’s to an amazing 2018.
