Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center

This week at the Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center was full of energy and holiday spirit! 45 participants stayed active in the fitness center, 49 enjoyed pickleball, and 40 hit the court for basketball. We had 7 creative patrons in arts & crafts making mini coffee shop dioramas, while 16 joined Dance 2B Fit to keep moving. Friendly games brought people together with 13 playing mahjong and 12 taking part in table tennis. Wrapping up the week, we welcomed 43 campers to Winter Break Camp for week 2 and celebrated the new year with a glow party! Happy New Year from Ann & Chuck! 🎉 Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Pool Good news from Ann and Chuck Dever Regional Park Pool where we had 178 dedicated lap swimmers, 228 happy rec swimmers, 35 wonderful water aerobics participants , and 2 adventurous scuba divers.

Despite the chilly weather, we closed out the year with an amazing turnout—39 skaters and 50 BMX riders!

Recreation

South County Regional Park Recreation Center South County Regional Park Recreation Center had 29 kids for break camp. They had fun playing games and decorating holiday cookies! 44 Pickleballers enjoyed friendly games with their peers while 12 Basketballers played pickup games this week. 5 plane enthusiasts too to the sky with their RC Planes in the gym.

South County Regional Park Pool

South County Regional Park Pool was enjoyed by 232 patrons this short holiday week. 18 came out for Water Aerobics. Six participated in a Water Safety Instructor course (WSI). They learned how to teach the Red Cross swimming and water safety program to all age groups.

Centennial Park Pool

Harold Avenue Regional Park Recreation Center

As the year closed out at Centennial Park Pool, the water buzzed with end- of-year energy and community spirit. A total of 193 lap swimmers powered through their final lengths of the year, while 121 recreation swimmers filled the pool with laughter and easygoing fun. Nearby, 33 water aerobics patrons moved in sync, turning fitness into a celebration. The lanes also welcomed a spirited mix of teams: 18 Blue Machine swimmers visiting from Canada, 29 dedicated Sea Dragon Aquatics athletes, and 12 Sea Dragon high school swimmers, all adding to the international and local flair. Together, every splash felt like a countdown— one last dive into the year, shared by a vibrant swimming community ready to welcome what comes next. The Rec Center stayed busy this week, with 91 Pickleball players keeping the courts lively and 47 Stride and Stretch participants stretching, stepping, and showing that good balance comes with good attendance. Trivia Tuesday also brought in 3 participants, proving that big brains sometimes come in small but mighty groups. We hope everyone had a happy holiday season. As we head into New Year’s Eve tonight, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable celebration and look forward to kicking off the new year together at the Rec Center. Tringali Park Recreation Center

Harold Avenue Regional Park Recreation Center has been camp-tastic! We've had 13 kids for day camp, where they've been enjoying activities, like gaga ball and vampire ball, being detectives finding clues, and the sunshine outside. They even got to throw their own New Year's Eve Celebration with confetti and all!! 🎊 Drop-in Basketball numbers are higher since the league is on break with 134 taking advantage of the open courts. Pickleball has been serving up some dill-lightful shots with 88 players. Table Tennis has been ping-pong and conquering with the 11 players this week. Aikido is showing strength with 7 learning the craft and even celebrated the instructor's 66th birthday by forming a circle and raising him in their air with their arms! Walking fitness had 10 regulars carrying on and stepping on in the Florida sunshine. Silver Sneakers continues to help strengthen stability and improve cardio with 22 members. Happy New Year!

Parks & Natural Resources

Coastal This week, coastal staff finished up a new costal activity and received 2 new educational outreach goodies that they ordered. Staff created a shark tooth activity with interesting shark facts, and 2 new post it notes designs with an American Oystercatcher and a Loggerhead Sea Turtle hatchling.

Coastal staff was also able to observe their first eaglet of the season at their Boca Grande nest.

Punta Gorda Charlotte Library

Another exciting week at the Punta Gorda Charlotte Library. Monday we had our Celestial Embroidery where patrons were able to make embroidered zodiac constellations. Then, if wanted, LEDs could be added with conductive thread to make them glow! We also received our new Cricut machine purchased thanks to the Friends of the Punta Gorda Charlotte Library. On Tuesday, December 30, we had our first round of donations from our Fiber Arts Donation Box. Several generous patrons gave homemade items for local organizations such as assisted living facilities and CARES(formerly The Homeless Coalition). With the cold weather coming in, CARES was especially thankful for such a needed donation!

Englewood Charlotte Library It was a short holiday week at the Englewood Charlotte Library. We hope everyone had a great holiday! Our Social Sewers and Crafty Quilters stayed busy finishing up some festive projects.
