HONORING YOU THIS MOTHER’S DAY A Tribute to Our Moms
Get Crafty Whether your mom is a budding artist or likes to dabble, spend the afternoon
Moms: they’re our real superheroes. Sometimes, they just leave their capes at home. They’re the greatest multitaskers. Whether they’re changing a diaper, groggy and sleep-deprived at 3 a.m., or cheering the loudest at the kid’s soccer game, their energy and compassion seem endless. This Mother’s Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate these extraordinary women in our lives. Here at Malloy Law Offices, I’m surrounded by a group of extraordinary moms. They work hard for our clients in the office and then go home to their beautiful families and kids. They might leave the office, but their work is far from over. They keep their families glued together, from planning and cooking dinner to helping with homework and managing a thousand little crises. To these amazing women at home and work, cheers to you! Your superpowers do not go unnoticed. To my mom, I want to offer a special shout-out! Without you, I wouldn’t be here — quite literally! Thank you for supporting me in all my endeavors and teaching me everything I know. What better way to celebrate the influential ladies in our lives than by planning a fantastic Mother’s Day? Here are a few activities to help make your mom feel extra special this year: Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane Dig out those photo albums and spend the morning reminiscing over cups of coffee. It’s a great way to relive precious moments and share laughs over old memories. Brunch at Home

Take a Class Together Whether it’s a cooking class, yoga session, or pottery workshop, learning something new together can be fun and memorable. This Mother’s Day, let’s remember that it’s not just about the grand gestures but also the quiet moments we share. It’s about telling her that you cherish her for what she does and who she is! So, here’s to you, Mom! For the lessons you’ve taught, the love you’ve shared, and the laughs we’ve had along the way. You’ve shaped us with your strength and kindness, and we are much better for it. Happy Mother’s Day! May it be filled with as much joy as you bring into our daily lives.

THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL GAINS OF RETRO WALKING REVERSE YOUR ROUTINE
Psychologists and self-help gurus say it doesn’t help to dwell on where you’ve been. But what if walking backward — literally — could benefit your health? According to a 2023 CNN health report, walking backward is a unique exercise regimen with potential advantages for your joints. Contrary to traditional forward walking, retro walking, as it is often referred to, engages different muscle groups, fosters improved balance, and contributes to overall fitness in various ways. One of the primary benefits is the engagement of muscle groups not heavily used in forward walking. When walking backward, you use your hamstrings, calves, and glutes to a greater extent. This variance in muscle engagement can lead to enhanced strength and toning, providing a good workout. Walking backward can be particularly beneficial for those recovering from injuries and/or dealing with joint issues. The unique motion of retro walking puts less strain on the knees, making it a safer alternative for damaged joints that still delivers cardiovascular benefits through a low-impact workout. As people age, balance and coordination are crucial components of overall fitness. Retro walking challenges both brain and body to adapt to a different spatial orientation, enhancing coordination. For older adults looking to maintain or improve their balance, retro walking can be a tactic to reduce the risks of falls and related injuries. Just start slow. The psychological benefits of walking backward also cannot be overlooked. It’s just plain fun to walk backward, and the low stakes of this exercise can excite those doing it to continue adhering to it. While walking backward may seem unconventional, the benefits are compelling. From targeted muscle engagement to reduced joint impact and enhanced balance, incorporating retro walking into your fitness routine can be a valuable addition. As always, it’s best to ask your primary care physician if it would suit your unique needs.

Sharks are powerful, violent creatures. They can have thousands of razor-sharp teeth. They swim about 12 mph when attacking — twice the speed of a (very fast) human swimmer. The mere presence of a shark is enough to close down a beach and frighten movie audiences. The Unbelievable Shark Encounter That Saved a Man’s Life
Apparently, some sharks are different. One shark even saved a man’s life.

Eugene and his family were enjoying a warm summer day in Huntington Beach, California. As he swam in the ocean, enjoying the cool waters of the Pacific, he was struck by a sudden tremendous force, pushing his neck backward. He later described the sensation as “instant whiplash.” After a difficult and painful swim, he reached the shore. Eugene’s daughter asked why his back was so bloody. He was shocked to find a giant gash across the center of his back, as well as several teeth marks on one side. The family headed home as lifeguards closed the beach, fearing more attacks. That evening, Eugene was in severe pain from the injury and was rushed to the hospital.

Not surprisingly, blunt force trauma was causing his pain, befitting a large shark ramming him in the back. However, this wasn’t the only diagnosis he received that day, nor was it the most severe. While examining

Eugene, doctors discovered a walnut- sized tumor on his right kidney. They quickly rolled him into the operating room and removed the cancerous tumor before it could progress. Whether the shark intended it or not, it may have saved Eugene’s life. Undetected, the tumor might have metastasized and spread to the rest of his body. Without that attack, he may not have known about the cancer before it was too late. Because of that fact, we are confident the shark is a hero, whether it knows it or not.

Celebrate National Pet Week HONORING OUR FURRY, FEATHERED, AND SCALY FAMILY MEMBERS
Pets come in all shapes and sizes, from the smallest goldfish to the largest Great Dane. Whether it’s a purring cat curled up on the window sill, a cheerful dog waiting eagerly at the door, or a tortoise plodding through the garden, these creatures become more than just animals — they are family. National Pet Week, celebrated from May 5 to May 11, is the perfect time to appreciate the joy and companionship these furry, feathered, or scaly friends bring into our lives. It’s a week dedicated to the little paws that scamper around our homes, bringing laughter, comfort, and sometimes a little chaos. Take Seann’s cat, Oreo, for example. This black-and-white bundle of fur is a cherished member of the Malloy household. The kids adore having a playful companion to chase around and cuddle with. With Oreo around, the house feels warmer and fuller. There’s always a reason to smile.
Pets have a unique way of making our lives richer. Dogs teach us about loyalty and unconditional love — they greet us enthusiastically no matter how long we’ve been gone. Cats, with their independent spirits, remind us of the beauty of quiet companionship, proving that sometimes, just being nearby is enough. Then there are the more unconventional pets. Anyone with a tortoise knows the joys of a slow and steady companion who teaches patience, while parrot owners can vouch for the entertainment value of having a pet that can talk back. And let’s not forget the horse lovers, who understand the incredible bond that forms when it’s grooming or riding time. During National Pet Week, let’s celebrate these incredible relationships. Here’s to the Oreos of the world and all the other pets that make our lives a little fuller. Let’s spoil them a bit extra this week — after all, they spoil us all year round!
