A Message from the Metro New Jersey Chapter 2014 President, Joseph E. Baldoni, MAI The Metro New Jersey Chapter is proud of the newly designated members who have attained the MAI or SRA designation. In total 6 new MAIs and 2 SRAs were awarded their designations. In addition, the chapter will have 6 members attending the Review Theory class this month to receive the General Review Designation. This achievement comes from a commitment to the appraisal profession and the recognition of the Appraisal Institute as an educational source with high ethical and educational standards. There are 71 candidates who are now going through the process of attaining their designation. They are assisted by a cadre of volunteer designated members who act as Advisors to assist the candidate in meeting their goals and earn either the MAI or SRA designation. The Chapter provides educational courses and seminars to enable those wishing to attain a designation the opportunity to receive quality education from well-seasoned and knowledgeable instructors. The courses available through the end of this year can be reviewed by logging on to www.appraisalinstitute.org; go to the education tab and search courses by the Metro NJ chapter. The Chapter’s web site www.ai-newjersey.org will provide upcoming meeting information and our Fall Conference Brochure. A dinner meeting is scheduled for October 2nd, and the Fall Conference is scheduled for October 24 th , both at the Hotel Woodbridge at Metro Park. Continuing Educational credits for each will be awarded to attendees. The committees for each have put together programs that will provide for those in attendance with useful information and concepts that can be used in their practice. The Government Relations Committee has been busy with the pending Broker Price Opinion (BPO) legislation before the lawmakers. As of this date, the legislation, and other issues are still under review and discussions with the New Jersey Association of Realtors. The efforts of the Chapter’s Government Relations have been in concert with the Appraisal Institute’s Southern New Jersey and Northeast New Jersey Chapters as well as the Independent Fee Appraisers, (IFA) and the American Society of Appraisers, (ASA) New Jersey Chapters. This joint effort has produced a unified position from the appraisal community represented by the above organizations. There will be more to do in the coming months regarding this BPO legislation and other matters that will come before us. As the end of my term as President is nearing, I am grateful to those who contribute their time and effort to the Chapter: Thank You to all; the Officers of the Chapter, the Board of Directors, the Committee Chairs and those serving on committees, and our Executive Director who day to day keeps the Chapter functioning. Your efforts and those of so many throughout the years are what make Metro NJ Chapter a strong chapter. In addition, Metro New Jersey sponsors the annual, d y long, Princeton Conference, which i the longest continuous educational appraisal conf ren e in the country. This year’s conference, the 78 th year, was held o Apr l 11 th at he Marriott Hotel and Conference C nter in Princeton. Our Fall Conference will be held on October 24 th at the Woodbridge Hilt n. Our educational calendar provides classes throughout the year to facilitate candidates with the ability to meet their educational requirements for designation and to assist members in their continuing education requirements. The Chapter also supports various charities with fund raiser events during the year. A very successful one has been the Baseball Fund Raiser that is held at Patriots Stadium, in Bridgewater, NJ. This is a fun, family oriented event, with all proceeds going to a charitable organization. This year it will be held on May 18 th and proceeds will go to The Sharing Network that provides for organ and tissue donation and transplantation. The Officers and the B ard of Dire tors, along with v rious Committee Ch irs ar continuously working hard to plan our programs, meet the Chapter requirements and stay abreast of d velopments within our industry. They are all avail ble to as ist with any qu stions a candidate or member may have. They give of their time for which the Chapter and I are grateful. In addition, the Mentoring Program, whereby candidates receive assistance from designated members, has been and will be instrume tal in helping candidates achieve their designations. I have been a member of Metro New Jersey Chapter since 1968 and during those years I can say that the Chapter and the Appraisal Institute has always met the needs of its members and candidates and they have both changed and grown in a positive manner that positions the Appraisal Profession for the future. Change is always necessary to meet challenges on a local, national and international level. I believe that despite the challenges to our profession, the need for qualified appraisers, with strong educational backgrounds and specific education as provided by the Appraisal Institute will ensure the future of the Appraisal Profession Please check our websit for upcoming educational offerings, events, g vernm nt relations updates. The Appraisal Institut is a leader in education, commun ca i n and information and the M tro New Jersey Chapter is y ur source to stay current. Joseph E.
