to the top podium at the end of the National Finals Rodeo. She finished second in the world standings last season, just as she did in her first trip to the finale in 2017. Those make a nice bow for the three Montana Silversmiths gold buckles she earned in between all while mounted on Sister, out of Royal Sissy Irish by PC Frenchmans Hayday. “I planned after the NFR to rest her until Fort Worth,” she said of the yellow superstar. “I looked at all the rodeos we’ve done really well at. I just wanted to start the year going to those. That usually includes Denver, but that was too soon after the finals. “I decided to see how we do at Fort Worth and Houston and San Antonio. I just stuck with those three, and they really paid off. It was almost a perfect deal to win first, second and third. When you can earn your way into those big opportunities, you want to take advantage of them.” In doing so, she proved Sister’s versatility again. They own the arena record at the tiny pen at the NFR and also have the two fastest times ever on the standard pattern, both accomplished in 2020. “I can’t tell you Sister’s favorite type of pattern,” Kinsel said. “She’s an adaptable horse, and she tries so hard on every run. If she’s not comfortable in a pen, she figures out how to make it work.” That’s why the tandem continues to make ProRodeo history. With the win in San Antonio, Hailey Kinsel is positioned No. 2 in the WPRA World Standings after pocketing $61,520 at the three big indoor rodeos – Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston - in Texas this year. One can bet she has another world title in her sights. Photo by Hailey Rae
