Welcome to LoanMart Field for the opening home stand of the 2022 season, as your Quakes host the Inland Empire 66ers! Thank you for joining us this home stand, as it sure is great to be back playing baseball in front of the best fans in the California League! Your Quakes opened with three straight on the road in Visalia this past weekend, but are looking forward to the home-cooking at LoanMart Field after winning just one of three in that series. Second-year manager John Shoemaker’s roster is loaded with talent and prospects, with a total of six players which MLB Pipeline considers to be among the Dodgers’ best: Catcher Diego Cartaya (#1), LHP Maddux Bruns (#12), OF Jose Ramos (#14), INF Alex De Jesus (#20), OF Luis Rodri - guez (#25) and OF Jake Vogel (#29). The Angels’ farm system has traditionally ranked as one of the worst in all of minor league baseball,
Alex De Jesus should be in the lineup this home stand. Due to a knee injury, he didn’t play in the series at Visalia. (Photo - Steve Saenz)

but the 66ers will enjoy eight of the Angels’ top-30 prospects this year, according to MLB Pipe - line. Names to watch on this Inland Empire roster include INF Arol Vera (#3), C Edgar Quero (#9), INF Adrian Placencia (#10), OF Alexander Ramirez (#12), LHP Mason Albright (#14), RHPAlejandro Hidalgo (#19), INF Werner Blakely (#24) and OF D’Shawn Knowles (#30). The Quakes have already seen one Dodgers’ rehabber through the first weekend of 2022 and could potentially see even more of him, as reliever Tommy Kahnle, coming off Tommy John Surgery in 2020, works his way back to the big leagues. Kahnle has not yet pitched for the Dodgers, but after a few more appearances, possibly this week at LoanMart Field, he could be poised to join that Dodgers’ bullpen and become a major factor at the back end. Due to some pandemic-influenced playoff rules (top two overall teams advanced to Champion - ship Series), Rancho missed the playoffs last year for the first time since 2014, despite winning the South Division. In 2022 however, the playoffs are scheduled to be a much more familiar formula of First Half South Champ versus Second Half South Champ, for the right to advance to the Cal League Championship Series. We hope you’ll come out and support these future Dodgers here in 2022, and enjoy all the Quakes’ fun that the pandemic has stripped us of for much of these last two years. We wish you and your family good health and hope to see you throughout the year at LoanMart Field. It’s great to see you and we truly appreciate your support...THANK YOU....and Go Quakes!

spotlight - Maddux bruns By Alina Garza
In anticipation of Opening Day and the 2022 season, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were pleased to an - nounce the addition of Los Angeles Dodgers #1 draft pick, Maddux Bruns, to their roster. Bruns is the first left-handed pitcher drafted by the Dodgers Organization out of high school since Clay - ton Kershaw in 2006, and according to MLB Pipeline, the Dodgers have ranked him as the #12 prospect in their system. Bruns responded with humility when asked what he thought of the ranking, stating” I try not to think about it. After the draft, it doesn’t matter. Everybody’s the same, we all do the same thing, and all play for the organization.”
Maddux Bruns loosens up before his first start in Visalia last weekend
No doubt, Bruns aspires to achieve the same success as Kershaw. When asked about his aspira - tions as a player and a fan he was quick to respond, “Kershaw is definitely a great role model and somebody to look up to.” Bruns arrived with the rest of the team on Monday, April 4, and has had no problem settling in. Only his first week with the Quakes and he had nothing but good things to say. “ It’s going great; everything is comfortable here. I like all the guys and it feels like home.” The Alabama native has pitched as long as he can remember. As a child, he was coached by his father in Tee-ball, and continued his focus on pitching going forward throughout his high school career, landing him his spot in the Dodgers Organization. As his first season approaches, he looks forward to getting to know all his teammates, and navi - gate his way through his first, full professional season. “ I think for me it’s just being consistent, at the end of the day, you got to get outs as a pitcher.” On the topic of consistency, Bruns explained how he reels himself back in when he struggles to find the strike zone. ”I’d say first it’s more of a visual queue, changing my levels, and eyesights. I think every time I go out there and pitch there’s going to be something new I need to learn whether it be setting my sights for breaking ball or working back through mechanics.” In light of the upcoming season, the question had to be asked if the first round draft pick had a pregame ritual or superstitions he partakes in, to which he responded, “ I think in the past I had, but now I think superstitions just take away from what I need to be out there doing”. He believes it’s better to take it day by day and do his very best than to be weighed down by superstitions. As a longtime baseball fan Bruns had no trouble expressing his excitement in joining the Dodg - ers Organization. “It’s definitely the best organization, with the best minor league prospects, best everything. I was excited to get out of Arizona and finally be with the affiliate team.” The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are equally as excited about this future star pitcher’s contribu - tion during their 2022 season. We hope you are too.
alumni report gavin lux A member of the 2018 Quakes, Lux was draft - ed by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in 2016 as the 20th overall pick from Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. During his time with the Quakes, he played 88 games, achieved 23 doubles, 7 triples, 11 home runs, 48 RBIs, and carried with him a batting aver - age of .324 and an on base percentage of .396. Lux progressed through the Dodgers organiza - tion playing for a split season with the Tulsa Drillers and the Oklahoma City Dodgers along - side teammate Dustin May. Both prospects rep - resented the Dodgers in the 2019 MLB Futures Game. Lux made his major league debut on September 2, 2019.
Lux opens 2022 at the big-league level and drove in the game-tying runs in the Dodgers’ Opening Day win in Colorado this past week.
