YOU MISSED YOUR TRAFFIC COURT DATE. NOW WHAT?

THE INS AND OUTS OF FAILURE TO APPEAR

But the caveat is that if you miss that court date, you’ll be issued a failure to appear and a warrant for your arrest. When this happens, you are no longer able to choose the option to pay the fine via mail, phone, online, or in person to avoid having to appear. Once you fail to appear, the Department of Driver Services (DDS) is notified and they are responsible for suspending your license, which means you’ll be unable to drive to work, school, the grocery store, or to dinner. If you’re caught driving on a suspended license, the repercussions are severe and you’ll face jail time for a mandatory 48 hours followed by a fine ranging from $600–$1,000. If it happens a second time, you’ll receive a mandatory 10 days in jail and a bigger fine. If you’ve missed a court date or need assistance figuring out a tough situation in regards to a traffic citation you received, you can always give us a call — we are here to help! Have you ever been pulled over in the state of Georgia and issued a traffic ticket? If you have, you’ll know that before you can go, you have to sign the ticket. By doing so, you are promising to appear in court, and if you pay the fine, you can possibly avoid going to court altogether. If you need to reschedule that date due to important schedule conflicts, you have the option to do so prior to the court date.
