to be sober, have faith, love one another, be patient, be obedient, be temperate. Do you know what temperance means? Some petfple think it mean? to leave liquor alone,, but it means more than that. No Christian ought to have to be told to leave liquor alone; the sad things that foltow in the liyes of those who drink should warn us. But there are other ways in which we can be intemperate. Whan we are greedy about our eating, or spend too much time in pleasure, or stay up too late at night, we are intemperate, too. .Whatever wd do that hurts our bodies or other people is bad for us, ahd dis pleasing to God. We find God’s Golden Rule in the words of our memory verse. Let us say it. Sometimes people think that if they measure their lives by this rule, and live the best they know how, they will be saved, but we know better. No one can save himself, and we all need to take Jesus Christ for our Saviour. But after we are Christians, then we can see whether we are growing if. we will stand up beside God’s measuring stick. Object Lesson . . H earts a n d H abits OBJECTS: A white paper heart, a red cardboard cross, and a black crayon, (The heart should be 5 inches .across. Not only is the heart, blackened with sin, but it has bad habits as well. At first it is difficult to make a crease in this paper heart. After the crease has been made, you will notice that it is very easy to crease it again in the same place. In fact 4t now folds along the crease when only slightly bent. [Make perpendicular and horizontal creases.} This creased heart reminds me of sinners who do certain things because of habit. For instance, the-Bible con demns the drinking of whisky, but there are those who have the habit, and can not, in their own strength, keep from yielding. There is only one way for a habit- bound sinner to be free, and that is by coming to Christ." We will turn the heart over, showing how one look? in the sight of God when his sins have been forgiven. The white heart sticks to the cross. [If three pieces of cellulose tape have been folded and invisibly stuck on the crossarm and upright of the cross, they will cause the heart to stick instantly and firmly to the cross.] Now the heart cannot be bent along the old lines of habit. The cross keeps it from bending, just a« Christ keeps the Christian from yielding to the power of old habits.
