The one who trusts will never fret; He who commits seeks not to hold, Be quiet, soul! Read deeper yet The lesson that is being told. Thou art not left to walk alone; A higher Power controls thy day; And on through paths to thee unknown The hand that’s true will lead the way. God’s blessing on His own abides; And, needed most,. He i3 most near. The timid one He never chides, But answers with, some word of cheer. But yet, one-hears from Him, “Be still!” When' soul would quick impatience show; And then comes peace. Who trusts His will Will surely all His goodness know. - —Sally Neill Roach. 18. Learning in Secret “I press on, if so be that I may lay hold on that for which also I was laid hold on by Christ Jesus” (Phil.3:12,R.V.); We must be rooted and grounded in the truth and in love, and for .this we must know the Word and live by it.. . . Nothing can be of greater importance to us than a secret history of soul with God, for it is in secret that our roots strike deep into the grace in which we are planted, and we learn that our security, lies in Him, and so we are preserved when the test comes. —J. T. Mawson. His Changelessness “Thou has. done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth” (Isa. 25:1). Our feelings are like the waves which dance and sparkle, but are ever fluctu ating, changing, and when the breeze subsides are wholly gone. "God’s truth and faithfulness are a great deep. They resemble the ocean itself, always there —vast, fathomless, sublime, the same in its majesty, its inexhaustible full ness, .yesterday, today, and forever; the same in calm and in storm, by day and by night; changeless while generations come and pass; everlasting while ages are rolling away.—Richard Fuller) Your Smallness “I am small and despised” (Psa. 119: 141). . And what if you are? What does it matter if men disdain ,you and make a mock at your small capabilities ? If God doth condescend to use for His 14. 15.

out in intercession for others and for the glory of Christ of which you did not know yourself capable. To pray in the Spirit is to let the Holy Spirit pray in you.—F. B. Meyer. 8. Having This Mind “Let this mind be in you, which was« also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, . . . humbled himself” (Phil. 2: 5, 6,.8). See* what Christ was, and what He did, and did for you. Think of what it means—this kind of disposition which was in the eternal Son of God, and which brought Him down from heaven to help us. What a result it would be if Christian men and women had this mind, a love like this, which stops at nothing, stoops to anything, surrenders everything!—James Rutherford. 9. His Business “My Father’s business” (Lk. 2:49). You find that your life is made up of monotonous, trivial duties. What are thèy? They are your Father’s business. He has put you where He wishes you to do His business. The more faithfully and lovingly you do your Father’s busi ness in the home, among your friends, and through the hours of your daily life, the better you. will be able to tell out the love of Jesus when God gives you the opportunity.—T. E. Cleworth. 10. Wings for the Heart “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God” (Psa. 42:1). My heart needs Thee, O Lord, my heart needs Thee! This world has not provided for my heart. It has provided for my eye; it has provided for my ear; it has provided for my touch; it has provided for my taste; it has provided for my sense of beauty—but it has not provided for my heart. Provide Thou for my heart, O Lord! It is thp only unwinged" bird in all creation; give it wings. ,—George Matheson. * 11. Going in Might “Go in this thy might, have not I sent thee?” (Judg. 6:14). 'We have, it may be, very real sor rows, very real cares, for others. Per haps we are called to some special ex perience of public difficulties of the present day in state, or church, or school. Anywise, we have the threefold host of the world, the ’ flesh, and the devil to deal with as we go. But in spite of circumstances, the Lord said to Gideon, “Go in this thy might,” and Hfi says it now to you. —Handley C. G, Moule. 12. Trusting ‘The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him” (Psa. 145:18).
